Casio is perhaps one of the most powerful brands in the world of watches. But that’s mostly the world of digital watches with the G-Shock sub-brand. Japanese companies have been producing analog watches for a long time under Evied, a building already under other sub-brands. These watches always came with battery and solar-powered quartz movement. Well, already! Casio entered the Mechanical-Watch market with the Edifice EFK-100 collection.
We had practical opportunities across the entire range of five debut models. Let’s take a closer look at new players in the world of entry-level mechanical watches.
Casio building
Casio Edifice’s sub-brand has been around since the early 2000s. Along with Casio’s digital collection, it represents the lines of analog watches. The brand has always featured distinctly modern and sporty styling, often inspired by motorsports.

The technical nature of Edifice is reflected in the solar powered quartz movement and “waves” characteristics, and is automatically synchronized to the atomic clock via radio waves. You may find examples of pairing digital and analog displays as well.
The brand may not be overly prominent among veteran watch enthusiasts, but it is ubiquitous in malls, main street jewellers and department stores. You may also have found Motorsports Connection in Scuderia Toro Rosso/Scuderia Alphatauri, Honda Racing, and Nismo’s sponsorships.
New Casio Edifice EFK-100 Series
New Mechanical Casio Edifice EFK-100 series. As mentioned before, these represent Casio’s first foray into mechanical timekeeping. I think this is a wise move as major Swiss brands are rapidly emptying their entry-level segments. For reference, we are talking about a collection between 279 euros and 449 euros. Recently, I couldn’t get an average mechanical watch for such money.

All EFK-100 models are 43.5mm long and 39mm. However, the integrated bracelet design also requires that the first fixed center link be counted to make the total length 49mm. Four of the five reference features feature a fully stainless steel case, with the remaining models offered in forged carbon and PVD coated steel. Raise the sapphire crystal up and reclaim the mineral crystal in the display case. Casio rated the watch’s water resistance at almost 100 meters.
Inside, check the reliable automatic Seiko diameter NH35. Some people may be hoping that Casio will enter the market with affordable internal capabilities, but I think this makes more sense. This move has been tested, is true, reliable and widely appreciated in segments. It clicks with 21,600 vibrations per hour, providing a fulfilling 41-hour power reserve.
Casio Edifice EFK-100 Dial Options
The new Casio Edifice EFK-100 comes in three basic formats: First, there is the EFK-100D, with the most affordable option at 279 euros. These stainless steel models come with an electroformed dial that emulates the appearance and texture of forged carbon. Successfully add. You can choose silver, blue, or green.
Secondly, there is the Casio Edifice EFK-100CD. Technically the same as the 100D, this variant features a real naked counterfeit carbon dial. Naturally, this will increase the price a little. Finally, the EFK-100xpb is a pair of forged carbon dials and forged carbon dials with forged carbon and black PVD treated steel cases. This model costs 449 euros.
All dials have a ring raised around the boundary line, decorated with subtle concentric ribs and sloping chapter rings with fine tracks. The applied time markers are accompanied by a thin filling of the room. A 6 o’clock date window completes the appearance.
Wearing the Casio Edifice EFK-100
I found the Casio Edifice EFK-100 to be worn very well, albeit a bit atypical. A diameter of 39mm falls into the senses because there is no better word and the perceived size is neutral. Incidentally, the forged carbon model has a larger 40mm millimeter. Atypical wear is a combination of thickness and length. It is 12.4mm thick, which is not slim, but is perfectly acceptable in this sporty design.
However, the watch feels longer than the official 43.5mm lug-to-lug suggests. This is caused by the protruding central link and total length about 49mm. All EFK-100 models were comfortable and elegantly worn on the 18cm wrist. But I can imagine it to be a little longer for someone with a small wrist.
Overall, the EFK-100 looks like a versatile sports watch. The wrist has a good presence, but not overwhelming enough to limit pairing with different outfits.
What we think about Casio’s first foray into mechanical watches
I have to say that the Casio Edifice EFK-100 collection is not impressive. The first thing that stands out is the quality of the finish. Brushing in particular is sharp and tactile. It looks and feels much better than you can realistically expect at this price.
Casio takes a clever balance, spending it where it matters, saving costs elsewhere. For example, you don’t get any quick release bracelets or minor tweaks, and the friction pins hold the bracelet link together. I’m not expecting anything else, to be honest. Casio prioritizes finishing and I love the highly appealing dial texture and finishing.
Overall, these watches look much more expensive than they do. Combine it with versatile, modern styling. I think Casio is working on something here. I look forward to seeing what else the brand brings to the table in the future. If the Casio Edifice EFK-100 is interpreted as a statement of intent, then there are serious new players in the segment!
