Sometimes I feel like I’m more interested in the Tag Heuer Connected SmartWatch product family than the Tag Heuer people. The statement is made in Semi-Est, but it remains accurate that the Swiss brand smartwatch watch family is a very different type of product from traditional watches. Therefore, people in the same industry who understand classic watches don’t immediately understand completely different smartwatch product categories. That effectively means that the smartwatch division is another beast. Nevertheless, Tag Heuer is completely committed to the connected product family and attention results. More than two years after their original debut, the Tag Heuer Connected Caliber E4 SmartWatch family (with a wide variety of models) remains attractive and competitive, even if it suggests that the speed of the tech industry over the past 20 years is a very long time of two or three years.

In 2025, Tag Heuer is very likely to update its impressive family of smartwatches again by releasing something like the connected caliber E5, or a version of the E4 with beef up specifications and hardware. But with the exception of better computers inside, it’s not immediately clear what the company will add to the new generation that connects smartwatches with new generation tags attached. This product is already the best Google Wear OS-based smartwatch, ironically in a category that doesn’t have many well-known players. Google imagined that the smartwatch operating system would work similarly to the openly available Android smartphone operating system. The idea was that Google would create the underlying software and develop its own hardware for others to run it. At this point, it wasn’t that good. The major players in the smartwatch market currently use their own operating systems, such as Apple, Samsung, and Garmin. Google is also solidly in the hardware market with a fairly pixel phone and a less interesting pixel smartwatch. From what I can say, if you need a Wear OS smartwatch operating system for a product with personality, the tag Heuer Connected Caliber E4 is the item you want to see.
It is interesting how Tag Heuer approached smartwatch products and traditional wristwatches. For example, the connected caliber E4 has many special limited editions that often include special software. Therefore, Tag Heuer has expanded the lifespan and profitability of connected product families by not only introducing new hardware, but also offering many interesting partnership models along with additional sizes. With a smaller battery (although it has the same one-day run time), Tag Heuer complemented this 45mm wide connected caliber E4 model, a 42mm wide model intended to wear much smaller.
In addition to releasing more versions of the Connected Calibre E4 for the past few years, Tag Heuer has created new software for smartwatches and is doing what probably doesn’t happen with that classic watch. Lower the price. That’s right, given that technology products depreciate right after they are commercially released, “aged” technology products need to lower their prices to stay competitive. Therefore, Tag Heuer is lowering the retail price of these products (the underlying hardware was announced in 2022). Let me give you a specific example. In 2022, I reviewed the steel using a 45mm wide black ceramic bezel tag, Heuer Connected Caliber E4 Watch. The same watch that Tag Heuer sells today costs $1,450. In an age where most other luxury watch brand prices are rising, it’s very healthy to see Tag Heuer do more of what the market expects, even if it belongs to this one product category.
The photo version of the Tag Heuer Connected Caliber E4 is known as “Bright Black” and was released in 2023. With the matte black coating grade 2 titanium case (also available in a black ceramic bezel), this version of the Tag Heuer’s 45mm wide smartwatch cost a little more than the steel version, but initially experienced handerm price reductions since its debut. The original retail price for 2023 was CHF 2,700 (approximately USD 3,030 at the time of writing). Today, this watch retails under 2,000 USD, and it’s still a really great product and is fun to wear.
There are three things that the Tag Heuer Connected Caliber E4 SmartWatch does particularly well: First of all, the smartwatch is very comfortable. Of course, it depends on the size you choose, the material of the case, and the strap, but the overall tag Heuer has been successful in creating a highly ergonomic product. This 45mm wide (approx. 15mm thick) version is lighter due to the titanium case construction and is located on a strap with an exterior leather and rubber lining. You’re wearing the “You’ve forgotten it” experience and rests comfortably on your wrist from the moment you put it down. In many ways, the connected caliber E4 is more comfortable than other tagged Heuer watches.
The second thing that makes a watch work is simply that it looks good. It has a very designer feel. This puts the technology product more in the world of traditional theme-themed sports watches, as opposed to smartwatches. This case is intentionally intended to look like a traditional watch with a crown and pusher arrangement. However, much of it is thanks to clever case engineering given the substantial amount of hardware that needs to be present in almost every smartwatch case/housing. The play with refined gold tone elements with matte black offers visual artistry and a gorgeous shine, while the various straps and bracelets available can even add personality to your watch. I keep saying that people who like the look of traditional watches but want a smartwatch often get offered by wearing something like the tag Heuer Connected.
Finally, the third thing Tag Heuer Connected Caliber E4 smartwatches specialize in is showing off what’s on the screen. Rather than highlighting cold efficiency and battery life (although it can reduce the power of the settings screen), the tag Heuer wanted to emphasize the visual pop of the AMOLED display with bright light and complex graphics. TAG Heuer has long understood that the fun watch face and excellent graphics can go a long way to help smartwatch consumers. Most people who wear such products will rather smile when looking at the dial than having a few hours of extra battery life. Under the protective sapphire crystal, the bright 1.39 inch wide AMOLED screen is fun to see the noted tag Heuer software.
Sadly, you cannot download the Super Mario Bros Watch Face for any of these tags Heuer Connected Caliber E4 Watches, but you can use most of the special watch faces developed by Tag Heuer for various special versions of connected caliber E4, such as the Porsche Car Collaboration model. Some of the faces of the watches feel a bit redundant in terms of design, but when it comes to things like that, I value versatility rather than focus. Some of the faces of the watch are very interesting, such as the orrery style planetarium face and the digital numerical face. I hope Tag Heuer doesn’t stop trying to make the software department. Because we hope that special watch faces and other software (such as many activity tracking features) unique to these tags Heuer Wear OS products are part of the majority of reasons to consider them and pay the premium price of smartwatch items. I think these are saying something as they are part of the only smartwatches that analogues like more than digital ones.
With its 50m water resistance, the connected caliber E4 is versatile enough to swim without becoming a smartwatch for more intensive underwater activities. That being said, these watches are probably intended for drier sports and fitness activities. The watch case has a heart rate monitor built in, but it’s not as flashy as what Apple and Garmin do. Activity tracking still covers the basics and is probably suitable for most fitness tracking purposes, but it is one of the areas where you may be trying to upgrade with some of the next-generation versions of smartwatch products with tag Heuer connected. That being said, Tag Heuer’s activity tracking software is fun to watch and helps make the experience more enjoyable.
The latest special edition version of the Tag Heuer Connected Caliber E4 x Oracle Red Bull Racing Watch was released in the summer of 2024 and is probably a hint for what’s coming next. From 2025 onwards, you will see even more Racing-World focus from Tag Heuer. I fully hope that Tag Heuer will make additional efforts to marry the gorgeous smartwatch products and the various racing worlds that he has participated in with his sponsors. It’s actually a good time for those who want to tag Heuer’s premium smartwatch products. The prices are fair and there are many accessories that will help you connect the tag Heuer more personally. This includes Tag Heuer’s own strap and bracelet, but this case is designed to accommodate most third-party 21mm wide straps. I recommend the Tag Heuer Connected Calibre E4 45mm model as a top pick for titanium, but in reality, all versions are worn and run similarly. Price for this reference is SBR8A83.BT6302 Tag HEUER Connection Diameter E4 Bright Black Edition Watch is $1,950 USD. For more information, please visit the Tag Heuer website.
