Russell Sheld Lake Tudor presents the new look of the Lagoon Blue and Black Bay 54. It features a bright blue sandy textured dial and a mirror-polished steel bezel. Available only with 5-link bracelets with T-FIT clasp.
There’s something to say about summer watches. The lightness, joy and carefree attitude they bring to your wrists and bring a day are unparalleled, and I think Tudor has just released a summer watch with the new Black Bay 54 Lagoon Blue. With a cool blue dial with a sand texture that has never been seen before and a mirror-filled stainless steel bezel, this watch feels completely different from the original 54, like a tool to join combat based on watches chosen by the French and US navy.
Let’s dive into the details of this and why it’s become such an exciting new addition to Tudor’s lineup. At this point, we are beginning to get used to seeing Tudor produce colorful dials. Whether it’s Flamingo Blue, Pink, or vCarb Blue, it’s becoming increasingly bold and forked from its tool roots. So, looking at the colour of the ice blue dial with rich sandy textures, it makes more sense in the Tudor universe. This watch is even found in Tudor’s new, bold watch family, suggesting that it may be more difficult to get than other catalogs.
While this watch has an incredibly modern feel, the Tudor Archive has a reference that provides prioritization of polished steel bezels. Going back to the 1990s, we need to find an example of Prince Oyster’s submarine, which comes with a very similar bezel, but instead of being carved into a tone-on-tone look, like this new 54, it was more often finished in contrast black.
Combining this mirror-polished bezel with a 5-link bracelet (the only strap option available on this model), this watch feels much more dressy than the all-black three-link rivet style bracelet you’re used to seeing on this model. And I’m a huge fan of this new aesthetic. It feels more like being at home at a beach club, rather than going beyond a wetsuit.
Beyond these changes, everything else we know and love about the 54 remains the same here. The case is 37mm in size, 11.2mm thick, and 46mm lug toe, and can withstand water resistance of 200m.
It also holds a fully COSC certified manufacturing magnitude MT5400 within Tudor Manufacture, providing a 70-hour power reserve for the watch. You can ask more from the summer clock, at the pool, at the beach and then at dinner.
