At first glance, the two new Resolute models in this review look very familiar. But don’t be fooled just because it’s a new addition to RZE’s Resolute series. One is the beautiful spruce green version of the Resolute Pro. RZE created this special edition in collaboration with Project Forest, an organization with a mission to rewild and capture carbon in Canada’s backyards. While technically it’s just a new dial color, the story behind it is interesting and the colors are stunning. Another addition to the lineup is the date version of Resolute Pro. Adopting the same jet black enamel dial as the limited edition model, this model will satisfy many watch fans. It’s time to find out more!
Let’s start with the Resolute Pro Date. I reviewed the jet black enamel version of the RZE Resolute Pro late last year, and it was a great introduction to the watch for me. It has everything you could want in a watch for the modern adventurer. The term can be a little confusing since so many different watches can qualify as “adventurer’s watches,” but let’s understand it in context. If you’re looking for a traditional field watch, choose one of Hamilton Khaki Field’s many options. If you’re interested in a modern field watch (or “explorer watch” if you prefer the term), the RZE Resolute Pro is for you.
Resolute Pro is now an even better everyday wearer
The Resolute Pro combines incredible everyday comfort with impressive toughness when testing watches. As we explained in our review of the jet black limited edition model, that’s what makes it the perfect modern GADA watch for less than $700. So what could be even better? To serve as an everyday watch, a date complication is a very welcome feature for many watch enthusiasts.
If you’re one of those people, consider yourself being heard. The new RZE Resolute Pro Date has a date window at 6 o’clock. The best part is that the dimensions of the case have not changed. On top of that, you also get a deep black enamel dial that gives the watch a nice depth that other watches in this price range don’t have.
But let’s start with some basics. RZE Resolute Pro Date features a 100m waterproof titanium case with a diameter of 40mm, thickness of 10.5mm, and lug-to-lug length of 46mm. The modern, angular case is fully brushed and features the brand’s proprietary UltraHex coating, making it scratch-resistant. Lightweight and well-proportioned, it has a sleek, modern design that fits snugly on your wrist.
Rich jet black enamel dial
A beautiful deep black enamel dial is combined with a titanium case. I love how rich and dark this dial is. Not only does the contrast with the applied markers improve legibility, but it also has a stylish and mystical element. As already mentioned, the set of elongated octagonal hour markers includes a large triangular index at 12 o’clock, another small index at 6 o’clock and a date window.
Each hour marker, including the one below the date window, is coated with white Super-LumiNova, making all 12 characters visible even in the dark. The outer periphery of the dial features a white minute scale with a dot every five minutes, except for the numbers 15, 30, 45, and 60.
The date window has a beautifully finished brushed frame that matches the hour markers. The pencil-shaped hands have the same finish and are coated with the same white luminous paint. What caught my eye is that the date is quite far back in the aperture. Reading the date from the front is never a problem, but viewing it from an angle can make it a bit more difficult, especially if the light doesn’t catch the black disc. I like that the white numbers are large and easy to read. Overall, the dial is well balanced and the attention to detail is unparalleled at this price point.
Wearing RZE Resolute Pro Date
Inside the case, the RZE has switched to a Miyota 9015 movement with a date function. It is part of the same series as the Miyota 90S5, which has a no-date version. The automatic caliber operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, has 24 jewels and offers a 42-hour power reserve. This is a reliable movement often found in other affordable watches, and it gets the job done perfectly.
The watch fits perfectly on your wrist thanks to the extremely comfortable titanium H-link bracelet. The bracelet features screw-down links and tapers nicely from 20mm at the case to 16mm at the clasp. Additionally, this milled clasp features an excellent tool-free micro-adjustment system for a precise fit. The screw-down crown feels solid and you can tell that everything about the watch is well designed and incredibly well made. Priced at $659, this new dated version of Resolute Pro is sure to turn heads.
RZE Resolute Pro Spruce Green
The second model I had for review is the Resolute Pro Spruce Green. This is a new dial variation for a limited time model. But this dial has a story to tell. RZE aims to become a carbon negative company. In that pursuit, the brand partnered with Canadian organization Project Forest. The project’s mission is to capture carbon in the most efficient way possible: rewilding Canada’s backyards.
For every new Spruce Green version sold, RZE will donate 15% to help Project Forest achieve its mission. More specifically, it will help fund Project Forest’s work with Cumberland House Cree Nation communities and Indigenous leaders. The goal is to restore traditional land uses and reestablish edible and culturally important plants.
The watch’s dark green dial color reflects Canada’s nature. It is reminiscent of the white spruce that makes up parts of interior British Columbia and Alberta forests. Similar to the jet black dial on the Resolute Pro, this dark green enamel dial is incredibly rich and dark. Sometimes it looks like a black dial, but as soon as the sun shines on it, it reminds you of its vibrant color. I find I like this one better than the jet black version as it has a colorful twist and is a little more vibrant.
This watch has the same specs as the Resolute Pro Date discussed above. Therefore, you get the same 40 mm titanium case with a thickness of 10.5 mm, which fits well on the wrist thanks to the lug distance of 46 mm and a very comfortable bracelet. Inside the case, RZE uses a Miyota 90S5 with the same 28,800vph speed and 42-hour power reserve.
Wearing RZE Resolute Pro Spruce Green
The lightweight watch is really fun to wear and makes the perfect affordable everyday watch. The bracelet weighs 120 grams and thanks to the full UltraHex coating it can withstand decent impacts. The green enamel is stylish and I can’t help but stare at the watch. I always admired the color when I wore it. This is my favorite version of the Resolute Pro series so far.
RZE has done a great job with these two new Resolute Pro releases. The date version is a smart and logical addition to the much-loved lineup. I think there are many fans who didn’t buy it because it doesn’t have a date window. That’s now an option. If that’s your reason, there’s no reason not to buy it. The spruce green version has a new dial color, but what a color!
I’ve been wearing this watch for the past few days and am truly enjoying every second of it. My favorite RZE watch? Well, that title still goes to the Nighthawk version of the Fortitude GMT. But this spruce green version from Resolute Pro is definitely my second favorite. That’s really good. Considering the $659 price tag, it’s hard to beat these two watches if you’re looking for modern everyday wear.
