Over the past year, we’ve reviewed several watches from Brellum. The team has always been impressed by the product’s build quality and relatively affordable price. However, we and our readers would like a smaller diameter watch. The new Blerum Duobox 39 Chronometer is ready for the day.
Previously reviewed Brellum watches had measurements in the 42-43mm range. We have received positive comments from owners who love our site, the look, the low production volumes, and the one-on-one communication with company owners. However, some people prefer a smaller footprint. Apparently, Mr. Blerum has heard the call, and the new Duovox 39 Chronometer now answers the call.
Blerum Duobox 39 Chronometer
As the name suggests, the latest Blerum chronograph is equipped with a 39.5mm stainless steel case with a lug-to-lug length of 48mm. At 15.3 mm thick, it’s a little chunky thanks to the box-shaped sapphire crystals on either side of the movement and case. Still, it has a practical depth rating of 100 meters, so swimming is no problem. This watch is available with a silver, anthracite or blue sunray dial. All pieces come with a stainless steel Jubilee-style bracelet and a black calfskin strap with a deployant clasp.

New dial design…
The Duobox 39 has a very traditional three-register layout with subdials at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock. It also features polished trapezoidal indexes with superluminescent inserts. In the center, 60s-style shiny luminous hour and minute hands are combined with blue chronograph hands. The top seconds and 30-minute hands are raised against the sunray dial. The lower 12-hour counter is embedded into the dial and incorporates a contrasting black date wheel on a white background. Finally, this watch has a pulsometer scale on the outer edge of the dial. The polished bezel surrounding the dial is narrower than the case, measuring 39mm.

…and a new incident
Duobox 39 features a new case design with beveled wrist-hugging lugs. A pump pusher and a large signed crown complete the classic, sporty design. Although it’s not thin, the mid-case is just 11.05 mm thick, avoiding the slab-sided look common to many similar watches.
different movement
So far, the Blerum watches I have reviewed have used Valjoux movements. Duobox 39 changes direction with the chronometer-certified La Joux-Perret L100. Brellum gives it the designation BR-110 due to its perlage, Geneva stripes, and 4N gold-plated rotor. It has a power reserve of 60 hours and a vibration frequency of 28,800 vph. Functionally, it has a hack function, allows quick date setting, and can be manually wound.

Perfect size for your wrist
I received the silver dial at Fratello headquarters and enjoyed wearing the watch. The dark blue and anthracite variations also look attractive, so it ultimately comes down to preference. Some buyers may desire larger pieces, and Blerum offers those options. My impression of the Duobox 39 is that it’s a well-balanced and perfectly sized watch.
I also found the Jubilee style bracelet to be thin, comfortable, and well-made. Importantly, the design complements the watch head rather than distracting from it. Some may appreciate the alligator-patterned black strap with a deployant buckle, but we’ll probably stick with the bracelet.
Affordable pricing, limited quantities
The new Blerum Duobox 39 Chronometer is limited to 46 pieces, numbered in each dial color. The price is 3,765 euros including VAT and shipping. As always, the watch is available directly from the Brellum website. In today’s market, it’s a good value for a chronometer-certified chronograph with a reliable caliber. Plus, it’s designed to be easy on the eyes and comfortable on the wrist. If previous Blerum watches were too big, is this new one appealing?
