The third Zach Blass Worn & Wound x Timex collaboration is available in two dial configurations: “Sunflower” (dusty yellow) or “Sunset” (magenta). It has a 37mm barrel-style steel case and a hand-wound Seagull movement. Each version is limited to 500 pieces, with 100 pieces available via Timex and 900 pieces available via Windup Watch Shop. Price: $239.
After hosting its largest watch fair ever in terms of exhibitor numbers, Worn & Wound continues its momentum with a new limited edition collaboration with Timex. After two successful runs, the pair is back with the third edition of their winning formula, the Timex x Worn & Wound WW75 V3.
True to its 1970s design, the 50 meter water resistant case is compact and has a traditional circular design. The case shape is not reminiscent of the dish shape of the Doxa SUB 300, but rather its narrower shape is reminiscent of cases from the 1970s from famous brands such as Vacheron Constantin, as well as military watches from the 1990s. It forms a barrel shape (or Batman’s ear shape). Era like the Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot Pioneer Mechanical, inspired by the Royal Air Force. In terms of dimensions, it has a diameter of 37mm, a thickness of 12.7mm, and a lug-to-lug dimension of 43mm, making it a wrist-friendly size. For those of you with larger wrists reading this who might be put off by these numbers, know that the WW75 V3 is true to the vintage style and larger wrists of the time had these measurements. Please keep this in mind.
As for the dial, the Timex x Worn & Wound Sunflower is a two-tone dusty yellow with a slightly lighter central medallion with a waffle texture that darkens towards the outer minute hash. The yellow contrasts with the playfully colored hands, orange for the hours and minutes, and the turquoise seconds hand with an orange tip. Next to each time index, pale white text appears to indicate the applicable minute. You’ll also notice, although very subtle, that there is a dark green line on the top of the base time index that matches the hash of the outer minutes.
The WW75 V3 Sunset offers a darker alternative to the brighter Sunflower, with a more unusual shade of magenta waffle-textured dial. One notable stylistic difference between this pair, which is otherwise nearly identical, is that the Sunset has a sector dial with light blue lines extending from the base point instead of numbers adjacent to each hour index. is. Another subtle difference is that non-radix hour indices have a teal border that matches the minute hash on the outside of the dial. Finally, the hour and minute hands are finished in dark teal with pink lume filling, while the seconds hand is rendered in white with a pink tip to match the lume. It’s worth noting that despite the $239 price tag, these watches have applied indexes rather than printed indexes.
Matching the dial color, each watch comes with a nylon NATO style strap. The Sunflower has a green strap to match the minute hashes (or serve as the axis of the sunflower-inspired dial), while the Sunset has a two-tone strap that matches the sector lines and hands on the dial. Comes with colored NATO. Even if NATO straps aren’t your thing, the second edition of the WW75 is available with a mesh bracelet and has a 20mm lug width, so the world is at your disposal when it comes to aftermarket options.
While the ’70s design on which the WW75 is based was quartz-powered, the pair opts for a hand-wound Seagull TY6, which provides a cost-effective mechanical experience.
The $239 Timex x Worn & Wound WW75 V3 watch is, in my humble opinion, a great and approachable way to bring some fun color into your watch box. For beginners, both the compact size and affordable entry price make this pair a strong choice for purchasing your first mechanical watch.
