While there are incredible success stories in almost every career field, from sports to technology, street artists find themselves in a much tougher position. Not only do they have to overcome the possibility of breaking the law or being threatened by people who see graffiti as vandalism, but they also have to survive in the fiercely competitive world of art dealers and galleries. Felipe Pantone is one such artist who went from ringing tins to design at the age of 12. Unique Zenith Watches Sold for Over $500,000 at Auction in 2021The Zenith Defy Skyline Tourbillon Felipe Panton has been released as the latest limited edition collaboration with the Swiss watchmaker.
Zenith and Felipe Pantone’s partnership, which expanded to the brand’s Le Locle headquarters in 2020, demonstrates the deep mutual respect between the two companies and has already seen the launch of a 480,000 CHF Only Watch edition and Defy 21 fused their experimental worldsZenith’s new DEFY Skyline Tourbillon Felipe Pantone is perhaps their most accessible watch. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still pretty quirky, but it’s a watch you can wear on a daily basis to inject some whimsy into your day.
Dial
Felipe Pantone’s style is extremely dynamic. It captures a very particular atmosphere of retro-futurism associated with 90s television and computers, and all the hyper-colours that go with it. Look beyond the cartoonish, jagged and distorted hands and indexes and you’ll find a hypnotic dial. The pattern of concentric circles radiating from the large tourbillon at 6 o’clock is actually engraved on a sapphire disc backed by a layer of reflective silver.
Diffracts light across the spectrumcreating a rainbow gradient of colors without the need for pigments. If you’ve ever collected holographic trading cards from Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, or Yu-Gi-Oh, you’re familiar with the magical rainbow colors. It’s hard to draw attention away from a tourbillon, especially one with a custom cage design like this one, but the dial does just that. It also recalls the iridescent glow of optical discs, which similarly result from data leaving a physical mark on reflective surfaces. With its holographic dial and glitchy details, the Defy Skyline Tourbillon Felipe Pantone feels like a PC breakout from the 2000s.
Incident
This incident actually Standard for the Zenith Defy Skyline and One of the reasons this model is suitable for everyday wear is not only because the titanium case is lightweight and fits comfortably on the wrist, It is also waterproof to 100m.This is a rare tourbillon that can be used for swimming. Each lug is engraved with an F, P, T, and 1, making it subtly different from other Defy Skyline watches. This likely stands for Felipe Panton Tourbillon. At 41mm in diameter, it’s impressive enough to grab attention, and at 47mm lug-to-lug, it’s easy to wear.
motion
Inside the El Primero 3630, the high frequency of the chronograph is brought to the realm of time display and tourbillon. With a beat rate of 5Hz or 36,000 vibrations per hour, the tourbillon achieves an exceptionally smooth sweep that is usually compromised in tourbillon watches. It is automatic and has a 60-hour power reserve, as evidenced by the PVD-coated winding rotor that matches the finish of the hands, indexes and tourbillon. The sapphire display caseback also features a luxurious finish and displays the limited edition number of 100 pieces of each watch.
bracelet
The Zenith Defy Skyline Tourbillon Felipe Panton is completed with an integrated titanium bracelet that highlights its surprising robustness for such a high-end complication, but this bracelet can also be swapped for a rubber strap thanks to a quick-release system. The black rubber strap is the exact opposite of what we want from a tourbillon watch: it makes you feel like you want to take it for a swim.
Verdict
Many may disagree as to whether the Zenith Defy Skyline Tourbillon Felipe Panton is actually an everyday watch, but it all comes down to one’s level of confidence. The watch is more than enough of an everyday watch from a physical and specification standpoint, and the nostalgic power of the Felipe Panton deserves to be showcased as often as possible. Limited editions like this are often relegated to safe queen status, but it’s up to the customer to change that.
