OMEGA has a longstanding relationship with the America’s Cup, and to celebrate this year’s race, the new Seamaster Regatta was released. Now more than ever, OMEGA saw the opportunity to develop a practical watch for sailors. Like the X-33 collection, this watch is conceived as an instrument, and features both analog and digital displays.
The 37th America’s Cup
The watch was unveiled in Barcelona, where the 37th America’s Cup is taking place. Omega President and CEO Reinaldo Aeschlimann explained, “Our new Seamaster Regatta belongs to the same watch family as the Speedmaster X-33. It’s essentially a multi-function tool that you can wear on your wrist. As the name makes clear, this is the perfect watch for sailors, and the timing of its release couldn’t be better. Barcelona’s great boat races are sure to inspire sailors all over the world, and this watch will meet their needs.”
Seamaster Regatta on the Wrist
Let’s take a closer look at the new Omega Seamaster Regatta and see what it can do for sailors. Firstly, it’s a regatta timer, which means sailors can use the countdown function to time the exact start of a race, which we’ve covered here before. But it also has the usual chronograph functions, a moonphase indicator, a sailing logbook, a thermometer, an accelerometer, three alarms, and of course the time.
This watch is not for everyone, but for sailors or those interested in sailing, this is a very interesting and functional watch. As Omega indicates, this is more of an instrument than a watch. I was surprised how well it fit my 18.5cm wrist. The skeleton dial (with wave pattern) has plenty of space for the LCD screen. The regatta countdown time is programmable (as it varies from competition to competition) and there is a moon phase indicator at 3 o’clock.
Grade 5 Titanium 300M Style Case
All this technology is housed in a 46.75mm grade 5 titanium case with four pushers and an operating crown – one pusher is red and the others are blue, all cast in rubber. The crown has a sandblasted finish and, similar to the Speedmaster X-33 model, can be turned or pushed to operate and access all of the watch’s functions. Omega has ensured that operating the Seamaster Regatta is extremely easy, making it as convenient as possible for sailors.

Mid-case with movement and LCD screen
Caliber 5701
A watch with lots of features also needs a proper dial (or screen) to do its job. The Seamaster Regatta has an LCD with black markings on a white-grey background. The hands are reminiscent of the famous Seamaster 300M model, but a backlight mode allows you to remove the hands from the dial, improving readability.
Inside is Omega’s Caliber 5701. According to Omega, this is the most accurate quartz movement they have ever produced. This multi-function quartz movement has all the features you need for sailing. As mentioned before, it also has three alarms to make sailors aware of certain events. Omega achieved the loud alarms by using a resonant cavity (Helmholtz resonance) on the back of the case. All the features are listed in the specifications below the article.
The case back also features the famous Seamaster “wave” pattern, is embossed with the 37th America’s Cup logo and is engraved with the words “Seamaster Regatta” and “37th America’s Cup.”
Additionally, to match the blue pushers and polished blue ceramic bezel insert, Omega delivers this watch on an integrated blue, white, or red rubber strap.
The Seamaster Regatta is priced at 6,500 CHF (excl. VAT), and more information can be found on Omega’s official website.
