The legend of the new CIGA design of the snake

CIGA designs produce watches that are different from the standard. It soon becomes clear that this is not the typical timekeeper for Central Hour and Minute Hands. The round UFO-like cases also stand out in a futuristic way. Now you’ll see two new models representing deviations from the previous piece. The Legend of the Snake uses exciting case materials and precious metals.

As an Asian brand, CIGA design makes symbolism very important. According to pressed materials, snakes can represent several important traits, such as wisdom, healing and regeneration. Therefore, it is not surprising to find the artistic form of the reptile on the dial of the new legendary snake clock. But the surprise is that the head and tail convey time. Oh, and did we say that this incident is made from gems?

The legend of the new CIGA design of the snake

The most famous model of CIGA design (and the winner of the GPHG Challenge Watch Award) is Blue Planet. The watch debuted the brand’s asynchronous movement with independent hour and minute rings and rotating gloves. Two new watches are available in the Legend of Serpent edition. The glove is gone, and there is a ribbon-like snake crossing the dial. Interestingly, the two clocks look identical to the snake’s colour, but each uses a different movement. I’ll soon be talking about that.

Each watch has a completely rounded round diameter of 46.5mm and 46.5mm, with a thickness of 15.6mm. A flash-fit sapphire crystal completes the foam and creates a lozenge-like look from the sides. The black DLC-coated stainless steel crown is the only detail that peers through the case. Despite the vast expanse of sapphire and the lack of traditional bezels, the watch has a 30m water resistance rating.

Textured honeycomb dial with precious metals

The legend of the Snake Clock sits a honeycomb pattern dial under the ring of 1 minute and time. There is an 18k yellow gold snake with a weight of 1 gram or 925 silver version floating above this textured surface. In fact, reading the time is very easy. The snake’s head refers to the time of the outer ring, and the tail refers to the portion of the inner ring.

The legendary onyx case of the snake!

The dial and time displays are certainly distinctive, but in the legend of the Snake, the case is a sleeper hit. Instead of using DLC ​​or PVD in metal, CIGA Design chose a very different one. Onyx, a type of agate stone, is shaped into a watch case.

Although the information is relatively scarce, CIGA mentions that it uses a combination of CNC cutting and manual polishing to form round shapes. As someone who enjoys gems, I find this exciting news. In terms of durability, Onyx’s Mohs hardness is 6.5-7, making it decent durability. However, given that the sapphire ranks 9, the owner should treat the legend of the snake fragments with caution.

Two Swiss production movements

Both the gold and silver versions of the Snake Legend use Swiss-Made’s CIGA custom designed automatic caliber. The gold version features the CD-04-S, which has a frequency of 28,800Vph and a 41-hour power reserve. The Silver One features a CD-04-E with a slower frequency of 21,600VPH and a similar power reserve of 40 hours. Each movement is displayed via a sapphire display on the caseback.

Pricing and availability

Each legend of the Snake comes with a thin chain of 925 silver snakes, while the gold version of the accessories are 18k gold plating. In terms of availability, these watches are currently available on the CIGA Design website for a price of USD 2,399 for the Gold Edition and USD 1,499 for silver. Furthermore, silver references are a serial production model, with gold being individually numbered and limited to 365 units. There is no doubt that these watches are different from most watches reviewed here in Fratero, but there is a place and perhaps a wrist for everything.
