This is evidence that you can learn something every day! I was basically under the assumption that I knew (wrong) that all modern speedmasters had made so far. In the past 10 years, I have seen many of them in 25 years of collection, including those brought to a quick Tuesday event. However, when I browsed the inter web, I hit a speedmaster that I had never heard or seen. Omega Speed Master 3511.60 “40th Anniversary Grand Prix”.

40th anniversary of speedmaster
This 1997 Speedmaster celebrated the 40th anniversary of the speedmaster collection. The “Grand Prix” part remains a mystery for me. Nevertheless, I think this small speedmaster automatic model was also related to Omega Angladder and F1 driver Michael Schumacher (and his brothers Ralf).
This watch is based on the Speedmaster Automatic equipped with Calibre 1152 (Valjoux 7750), with a special sculpture on the Salmon dial and case back. Many months ago, the standard version of this watch (see 3511.50/.80, etc.) was the first speed master owned by the editor Gerald. This 39mm speedmaster automatic, typical eight crowns, 12:00, 9 and 6 o’clock, and 3 o’clock were popular in the 1990s.

More salmon
Recently, 39mm is a popular size, and Omega was in 2017 in the Speedmaster ’57 60th Anniversary Edition, Speed Master Calibur 321 (after 2020), and the first omega (2012 and 2024) of the space model. The possibility has been realized. Acquiring one of these NEO-VINTAGE SPEED-MASTER 3511 in the 1990s may be an interesting option if you need a date and automatic movement. When I was looking for this watch, I found only one drawn from the R/Watches Reddit community @watchfoodwithme. The color of the salmon, the steel bezel and the case are a great combination.

Speedmaster 3511.60 is not the only speedmaster with salmon (or copper) dials. A few years later, in 2001, Omega introduced a speedmaster 3513.60. The model with Omega Charibur 1151 (based on VALJOUX 7751) has a slightly modern dial with a metal rim, and has a silver applicable marker.

Speedmaster 3511.60 “40th Anniversary” had a black rim on the sub -dial and a black application time marker. Use an old type bracelet, as the speed master has decreased. I have to say that I prefer 3511.60 than 3513.60. There is a typical Omega Speed Master Bracelet from the early 1990s to the middle, but there is a sophisticated central link.

Large in Japan
Currently, Chrono24 has only 10 list of salmon dial speedmasters 3511.60 watches. Most of those warranty cards indicate Japanese retailers. I am convinced that these watches were specially produced for the Japanese market at the time. Some countries have all cool things!

This salmon dial speedmaster is a wonderful surprise! It looks surprisingly good! The price changes from 2,800 euros to 4,500 euros. All examples are outside the EU (or the United States), so make sure you are aware of imported tariffs. Click here for the list of Chrono24.
Some of the dials I saw show a rough edge near the subdial, which is a trace of corrosion and lacquer problem. Currently, there is no information about the production number of the salmon dial speed master 3511.60.
