Raymond Weil continues to bring complications to a more affordable level by unveiling a full calendar of new freelancers. Featuring automatic movement with moon faces, month, day and dates, the complete calendar marks milestones in your freelancer collection. Available in two variations, the complete calendar for freelancers is available in either Sunray Blue dial or stainless steel with PVD rose gold case and Sunray Silver Dial.
Most watch enthusiasts love complications. Some people love GMT and the world’s timers, while others want chronographs and tiny repeat customers. There’s nothing better than discovering super-complex pieces that suit what you wanted, but it’s true that the more complicated these things become, the less accessible they become. Raymond Weil had other ideas. They’ve always played in entry-level luxury spaces, and their latest effort, the freelancers’ complete calendar is one of the most engaging calendars to date.
Raymond Weil’s Freelancer collection has been with us since 2007. It covers everything from sports chronographs to thick divers, but that’s it It generally covers a line of classic watches that closely track what is expected of a typical watch. The same goes for the complete calendar. At 40mm, it comes in moderate sizes, either polished or rose gold PVD coated stainless steel. The proportions are modern, with long tapered lugs and a curved bezel that stretches to the edge of the case.
The interesting part is its thickness. At just 10.15mm, the freelancer’s complete calendar is one of the thinnest complete calendar clocks on the market, beating more expensive competitors like IWC and Vacheron Constantin. Overall, this case is comfortable to wear and look, with the under-screw crown offering water resistance of up to 100 meters. This is another big plus.
Each of the two case options has a different dial. The stainless steel version matches Sunray blue, with rose gold paired with Sunray silver, which Raymond Weil labeled as “Dune.” The dial is large and clearly laid out, with date subdials and moon phase indicators at 6 o’clock and day/month windows at the top. The Moonface features NASA-inspired images on a blue background. Both dials have sophisticated applied indexes alongside the hands filled with Super Luminova. The result is a dial with an elegant and refined appearance that exceeds the collective weight.
The freelancer’s complete calendar is powered by the new RW3281 caliber, an automatic movement based on the Sellita SW300-1, providing substantial power at 4Hz for 56 hours. Raymond Weil has a history of partnering with Sellita to develop and modify Calibres, and RW3281 has been extensively altered to address additional calendar complications. The base caliber is a powerful move that fits some respected watches, and given the length that RW improves it, it’s perfect. The SW300 is known for its thinness and may also play a role in the overall thickness of the watch. You may not win a beauty award, but it is not appropriate and provides information in a clear and compelling way.
The two models have different strap/bracelet pairings. The number of blue dials is equipped with a five-link jubilee style bracelet with RW brand foldable folding, but the rose gold variation comes with brown Calfskin and case-matching folding grip clasps.
Who says complicated watches need to be expensive and out of reach? The Raymond Weil Complete Calendar is a watch that brings complications to a larger audience thanks to its considered price range, and it’s not easy to see about aesthetics either. A complete calendar of freelancers is a solid option for anyone looking for a modern watch with interesting complications at a price that doesn’t complicate your finances.
