When we introduced a new combination of the yellow gold Rolex 1908 paired with the Settimo bracelet on April 1st, the full gold ensemble priced at CHF 33,400. On the same day, the gold cost was reported at USD 3,120.93 per ounce. As I wrote this on June 10th, the price of gold per ounce is around $3,329.85 USD. Prices rose 6.7%, but please be delighted and let us know that 1908 Full Gold prices have not continued or that prices have not risen. Well, it’s not yet. Life has certainties such as death, taxes, and rising Rolex prices. But now, let’s focus on the clock that received Midas’ touch and walked away better for it, so that the price doesn’t get in the way. The bracelet makes the watch. This is the case with many watches, due to the enduring 1908, which debuted in 2023. The 39mm yellow gold, white gold and platinum watch are great-looking watches with leather straps, but they are not spectacular. I know, 1908 is not spectacular as it is a Rolex traditional dress watch idea, but it can still be done with a bit more pizza. The 7-row Settimo bracelet in yellow gold brings just that.

The enduring 1908 collection replaces Cellini, doing so with a little more punch than its predecessor. The dress watch comes in a 39 x 47 x 9.5mm case in yellow gold, white gold or platinum, with partially domeed and partially grooved bezels. The platinum version has an ice blue dial with rice grain guillotine, and gold references have a black or white dial. The new Settimo bracelet is only available in the 1908 18K yellow gold version, with reference numbers 52508-0007 for black and 52508-0008 for white. The latter is a more subtle repetition. Now, “subtle” may not be the best word to describe the difference between the two, but displaying Arabic numbers and stick markers with versions with white dials gives it a more traditional and refined feel.
Slim and smooth 7 rows of bracelet
The 7-row Settimo bracelet is more than just “slimy”, but its links are completely refined. It is also silky smooth. This is due to the glossy and refined finish, but most credits go to the perfect construction and finish of the bracelet. The Settimo bracelet has five rows of links in the center, slightly narrower than the two on the outer. Also, thin and supple, instead of pins, Rolex uses 18k gold screws to make adjustments easier and reliable.
You may also notice that the edge of the bracelet does not curve to hold the case. Rather, they are only slightly curved, leaving a noticeable gap. This offers a slightly retro touch that brightens the overall look of a “heavy” watch. I didn’t have my scale, but this perfect creation is heavy. Luckily, this watch has a good wrist balance and a better finish, so the weight does not cause irritation. Instead, the weight of precious metals adds a different feeling to the already luxurious look of the watch.
This year, 1908, in perfect form, is too open to compete in the dress watch of the most introverted class. However, you can compete with other full gold dress watches. The Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse is often considered to be the best classic in the class, but the iconic piece at Ref 5738/1R, a Rose Gold chain-style bracelet, is also not a flower on the clock wall.

In a recent Sunday morning showdown, the 1908 all-gold gold went head-on with all-gold gold Yeager Lekul Reverso. Yes, Reverso has a bracelet made of 16 meters of gold thread, which is an impressive number, but the result is not as impressive as it prefers it over the 7-row Rolex bracelet. Perhaps the decisive factor is the very elegant and hidden CrownClassp. Rolex built something almost invisible, but JLC did the exact opposite. Still, Reverso won. Perhaps that’s because 1908 isn’t the typical Rolex, but Reverso is a very typical JLC.
This watch is lively
Apart from the Settimo bracelet, nothing new. Therefore, behind the clear case of a 1908 Rolex, the slim caliber 7140 is found. This automatic movement features a Cronel escape with a polaroid hair spring for optimal resistance to magnetism. It is rated at ±2 seconds per day and provides approximately 66 hours of autonomy. The 4Hz movement has 38 gems, and like all Rolex calibers, it will likely be a carefree power source for years to come.
If I were in the market for top-class dress watches with extra visual vitality, would I consider a complete constant 1908? yes i will. This watch is like a Spanish Inquisition. It somehow managed to be traditional, modern, sparkly, elegant and gorgeous, it was an unexpected creation. It feels good to wear. Rolex’s Midas Touch worked in 1908 and has a big smile on my face.
