The citizens’ Tsuyosa lineup has always impressed us as an absolute sweet spot in the market. I’m struggling to think about offering more watches for the price. The Tsuyosa collection can make you think more about things that are more fancy. So, what about when you want all of that, but with a more classic and elegant size? If it sounds like you, you’ll love what citizens are showing us today – citizen tsuyosa 37mm!
The new size comes in three cool colors, some new and some familiar. You can choose from ice blue, pastel pink or dark green. I had the opportunity to try them all and here is how we got along well.
New citizen tsuyosa 37mm system
The new citizen’s tsuyosa 37mm model is familiar to most people. Stylistically and technically, they take a lot from their larger brothers. The overall design still goes back to the popular NH299 series of the late 1990s/early 2000s. Aesthetically, modern tsuyosas are still very similar. You might say that these watches also match the NH299 in spirit. These predecessors were famous for being made from stainless steel in segments dominated by inexpensive plated brass watches. Tsuyosa’s name (meaning “strength”) pays homage to its ancestors.
2022 NJ0150
Citizens released the Tsuyosa Automatic NJ0150 in the summer of 2022. I received it with a lot of excitement, both for its excellent value and its bold, bright dial colour. These bright dials and integrated bracelet recipes were right on the trend.
The NJ0150 was done in a 40mm case, which makes very reasonable for a sports watch. Still, due to the everyday desires of the Line, the small version certainly makes sense. This 3mm reduction significantly expands the appeal of the model.
Citizen’s Tsuyosa 37mm
For a new watch. The stainless steel case is 37mm, 37mm, with a 40mm lagtoo lug. However, the thickness has been changed from 11.7mm to 11.5mm, which is different from the 40mm model. This means that the 37mm model is a little more dense and looks like Tabbia in comparison. However, this will only be noticed in a direct comparison, as 11.5mm is a very reasonable thickness for a sporty 37mm watch.
The inside of the case checks for the same caliber 8210, but citizens still rate their water resistance at 50 meters (and therefore close to the same thickness). The self-winding movement operates at a relatively low 21,600VPH frequency with a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. Citizens rate the accuracy at approximately -20/+40 seconds per day. The date window under the magnifying glass remains from the larger model, as well as the display caseback.
Of course, the signature integrated bracelet will also be revived in the citizens’ tsuyosa 37mm. Its refined central link contrasts the brushed outer link with a very nicely-clear look. The Simple Push-Button Deployant Clasp has three fine-tuning positions. This position requires a sufficiently strong and fitted tool or pointy object.
I’m wearing a citizen’s tsuyosa 37mm
Recently, I have discovered a bit of a trend among manufacturers of integrated bracelet sports watches. They add smaller variants in addition to the larger base model. Unfortunately, most jumps range from 40-42mm to 35mm cases. I hate being overly ill, but it often makes me right “between sizes”. The ~40mm option is often worn a bit larger for my preference, but the 35mm alternative kind of species breaks the desired effect.
Well, there’s no such problem with the Tsuyosa 37mm! Citizens chose the ideal case size for this model. For me, it balances the perfect balance between modern sportiness and classic elegance. I liked the 40mm version, but it was a bit overwhelming for my preference. The 37mm version is perfect for money.
This leads to a highly versatile and ergonomic experience. The new Tsuyosa looks at the home in almost any outfit when matching or contrasting colors. For me, this is the difference between a sports watch and a gada (go anywhere, do whatever you want). The 37mm Tsuyosa will become a major candidate for the “single watch collection” within budget.
Other impressions
One thing that pops out at me whenever I handle versions of Tsuiyosa is quality. Of course, you can’t expect high-end quality or hand finishing at this price. However, these watches hold their own watches against much more expensive products. They feel that they are rather solid and reliable, without the small subtleties that you often encounter in this segment.
It brings me to the exterior finish. Frankly, it’s ridiculously good. Polished surfaces look bright and even, while brushed surfaces scatter light when necessary. There is no typical blurring of transitions or dull surfaces, as is often seen in the 1,000 euro price range.
The citizens also chose the colours well. As I lurked in spring, I chose a bright pink or blue dial. The colours look vibrant and attractive, but not overwhelming. The colors of the bright dial can be difficult to match the outfit, but these are well-restricted to be versatile.
Citizens’ thoughts on tsuyosa 37mm
In short, I am very impressed with these new civic models. These are 299 euros/£299/US$375 so the value of the money remains amazing. This is less than most brands charge for their services. It seems that you can eat and eat cake because there is no major sacrifice to the quality.
I would also like to praise the citizens for choosing the size. The diameter of 37mm is perfect for men and women with a more classic size taste. However, this is not to be placed as “small things” in the associated stigma. Competitors, beware!
