Many brands strive to make small watches, but it’s great to see Piaget carry thin banners in their Altiplano series. As a longtime producer of wafer-like watches, the company continues to push boundaries with innovation. One example involves using a caseback as a MainPlate to reduce the thickness. Today’s work is not brand new, but it offers two lovely Altiplano models refreshed take.
The recent cries of the revived Polo and Andy Warhol models probably have lost the Altiplano collection on shuffle. Piaget is here today to rectify any of these ideas, using two new colorways of the two most visually arrested models. The Altiplano Ultimate Tourbillon concept and 910p are now available in green and gold.
Altiplano Ultimate Tourbillon Concept
In 2024, Piaget celebrated its 150th anniversary with the release of the Ultimate Concept Tourbillon Limited Edition. This watch retained the impressive overall thickness of 2mm, first shown in the Ultimate Concept as an experiment in 2018. The watch began serial production in 2021.
The latest 41.5mm piece uses a tour byoon flying in-house 970p-UC manual winding caliber. Includes gold details such as screws and a one-minute tourbillon display scale. Green is used around the dial display and crown assembly. The green leather strap features a brand new Polish mesh pattern, evoking metalwork.
Surprisingly, this barely move runs at 28,800 VPH and offers a 40-hour power reserve. All details are displayed via 0.2mm thick sapphire crystal, including a 10 o’clock tourbillon and an open barrel at the bottom of the dial.
As mentioned before, this Altiplano uses that case as a MainPlate. Piaget employs an incredibly hard cobalt alloy to ensure this provides proper robustness. Impressively, the caseback includes a small display from Tourbillon Works. Piaget has not released the price for this work, but we can expect it to be 600,000 times more based on last year’s LE.
Altiplano 910p
The 4.3mm thick Altiplano 910p may sound thicker than the Ultimate Concept Tour Billon, but that’s an unfair comparison. The 41mm case is now available in 18K yellow gold with a Khaki-Green dial. At the top left of the dial is a large time display, surrounded by a variety of visible motion components. This includes the power reserve indicator on the bottom left. The Piaget includes a green crocodile strap that matches the watch. The strap alone discourages you from entering the water, but I’m happy to know that watches have a rating of 2atm splash resistance.
Other details on the Altiplano 910p include the use of Piaget’s cross-shaped motif on the dial and screws. From a performance standpoint, the 910p Automatic has a 46-hour power reserve and a frequency of 21,600VPH. Among the 258 components within the caliber is a suspended barrel. Additionally, despite its impressive thickness, the watchmakers added angularisation, brushed bridges and wheels. The closed caseback also features a circular satin brushing.
Again, Piaget has not revealed the list price of the latest Altiplano 910p, but the other gold models cost 39,400 euros. It’s not cheap, but it makes for a much more visually impactful option when compared to a traditional dress watch at similar prices.
The thoughts of parting
With these updated Altiplano models, Piaget created two interesting options: The colour is at the point and is certainly fashionable at the moment, but it must stand the test of time. When it comes to availability, it is wise to visit and contact your local Piaget certified seller. As for Tourbillon, potential owners of Lucky are pleased to note that the brand offers a range of customization options, including but not limited to bespoke engravings. Why not add something meaningful and personal for such a special watch?
