Omega’s Deep Black series is a sub-collected item within the Seamaster Planet Ocean Line. The watch has a 45.5mm brushed black ceramic case with a rating of 600m depth. Today, the Swiss Beer/Bienne brand is adding two new references to the current four references by introducing the popular World Timer complications. You can choose between a grey or turquoise accented version.
Two years ago, I participated in the release of the Seamaster Planet Ocean Chronograph Deep Black Etnz edition in Barcelona. The watch was fully stocked by the crew on a New Zealand boat of the Emirates team, which won the 37th America’s Cup. It comes with a regatta countdown timer and features a team’s signature turquoise accent. One of today’s references also has a turquoise accent. But it’s not officially linked to ETNZ (as far as we know, anyway). If you’re not interested in the black and turquoise combination, it’s good to know that there are also versions with grey accents. Let’s take a look.
Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean World Timer
As mentioned before, all Seamaster Planet Ocean models in Omega’s Deep Black series come with a 45.5mm brushed black ceramic case. However, depending on the movement inside, the watch is slightly thinner. This is also why lug-to-lag measurements are slightly different between different models. The new WorldTimer version has a thickness of 17.4mm and a span of 51.4mm from tip to tip. Certainly, the sea of these planets will not easily fit under the sleeves of your dress shirt. Again, the formal context does not mean that these watches will flourish.
The new Planet Ocean Worldtimer has a one-way ceramic bezel made using laser ablation. Most of the surface is finished in a raw finish, but the height numbers above it are polished. The 60-minute marker has bright dots that emit green light and respond to lumes with tiny hands. The rest of the rooms on the hands and dial emit light blue tints.

At the 10 o’clock position, there is a helium escape valve crown, and the 3 o’clock crown allows you to set it by wrapping the Omega 8938 automatic caliber. These crowns come with turquoise or grey ceramic inlays.
Arctic perspective
The World Timer dial of these new planets’ oceans stands out quite a bit from other deep black series. The centerpiece is made of titanium. Above it is the laser ablation and varnished representation of the Earth, as seen from the Arctic. Then, at a low level, there is a 24-hour spinning disk that helps to display time in most time zones. The outer ring of the dial is brass and includes applied time markers, city rings, 6 o’clock date window and honeycomb texture.

In one version, the ocean map of the world, the tip of the second hand and the edge of the dial are all turquoise. In other versions, all of these details are bright gray. Another interesting difference is the colour of the room. In the turquoise version, the room is traditional white. However, on the gray model, the room is also gray. Omega says this is a new gray version of Super Luminova. Finally, the turquoise version of the phone has a brush finish, but the grey model’s hands have a polished black finish.
Metas Certified WorldTimer
Inside the ocean of the new planet, the WorldTimer runs the Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer model, just like its same axial caliber 8938. This automatic movement runs at a frequency of 25,200VPH, features 38 gems and has a power reserve of 60 hours thanks to the double barrel. Looking through the display case, you will see rhodium finishes on both the bridge and rotor. They also have the Geneva waves of the signature Arabesque of Omega. Additionally, the screws, barrels and balance wheels are all finished with black.
Once the watch is assembled, it undergoes rigorous testing using the meta. The tissue’s Master Chronometer certification ensures that the watch is resistant to magnetic fields of 15,000 Gauss, 600 meters, and is accurate from 0 to +5 seconds per day. The ceramic and sapphire cases are closed with a nyadlock to ensure that the sculpture is always in the right direction. This isn’t a problem with the display caseback, but it’s still a great feature.
Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean World Timer on the Wrist
Like the chronograph version of Deep Black Seamaster Planet Ocean, these World Timers are one of the big boys in the world of watches. The 51.4mm lug-to-lug is not too bad for a 45.5mm diameter watch. However, it is very difficult to hide if it is slightly below 19mm thick. I think we need to achieve a rating of 600m depth. If that’s important to you, I think it’s difficult enough to handle the size of the Planet Ocean WorldTimer.

To be honest, I thought those Seamaster Planet Ocean Chronograph etnz Editions were a complete view of the wrist house of the Barcelona sailing crew. That was the exact right context for such a watch. The same applies to the new World Timer. I think this new complication fits very well with the theme of sailing. Wear this watch in a sportier outfit and in a more casual context. But yes, a wrist that is slightly larger than average can actually be useful for wear.
As for looks, the monochrome version is my favorite. The turquoise accents are great and look great in contrast to the deep black background, but the black and gray versions look worse. I think that’s what’s important for a watch of this size. I love the new grey shade of Super Luminova so that might be my favorite.
What do you think?
The new Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean World Timer in deep black with turquoise or grey accents is 16,400 euros. Each version is placed on a curved rubber strap with a sail cloth texture, contrasting stitching, and a folding clasp made of ceramic and titanium.
