Essence is one of Formex’s most innovative and versatile watches. It is also the most popular because of its specifications that work for the price and a comfortable wearing experience. Today, the brand presents stainless steel essence space ghosts and new 41mm sizes. However, this is not just another essence sandwiched between the existing 39 and 43mm models. Formex has adjusted the size as an opportunity to significantly improve the essence. That’s why the butterfly clasp has a new micro-adjusting system, comes with a under-screw crown and, above all, it has a met stone dial.
During the GADA series two years ago, Vincent chose the Formex Essence 39 as the perfect place, so he did watches with anything. It wasn’t a surprise to anyone, as its essence is truly a very capable watch. It is 100 meters resistant, absorbs shock with its proprietary suspension system and maintains time perfectly with COSC certified movement. What else do I need? Well, Formex thought up a few things and incorporated them into a new essence 41mm space ghost. Let’s take a look.
New Formex Essence 41mm Space Ghost
First of all, the 41mm size is not completely new. The Essence Leggera already had a 41mm case. However, it is made of forged carbon and ceramic and features a crown guard. The new 41mm essence has a “guardless” crown and comes with a 316L stainless steel and titanium case. It features a polished brush finish that matches the case, bezel and the entire bracelet. The lug is 46.5mm wide and 10.6mm thick.
This special Space Ghost Edition, commemorating the brand’s 25th anniversary, features a met stone dial cut from a 4.5 billion-year-old fragment of Muonionalusta meteorite. Its grey sheen comes from galvanic rhodium plating. Formex also developed its own process of penetrating porous iron matrix, allowing the melted index and logo to be fixed to the dial instead of glued together, which can cause oxidation. All this is done to maintain the natural beauty of its attractive met stone texture.
New Micro Adjustable Butterfly Clasp
Formex’s Carbon Fiber Composite Folding Clasp already has the potential for patented toolless fine-tuned features, but stainless steel bracelets have not been the case so far. The new butterfly clasp on the Essence 41mm model bracelet offers three different fine-tuning positions. 3mm bracelet can be extended on both sides of the clasp. That way you’ll have 6mm twigs. The adjustment system can be used without removing the watch from your wrist. It’s also good to know that stretching a bracelet doesn’t create ugly gaps as you would find on other bracelets. Omega, are you taking notes?
Another improvement to the bracelet is in the new screws used to secure the links together. Usually, watchmakers use drops of roctite to prevent the screws on the bracelet from starting to move over time. It can occur due to constant movement, impact, and stress on the face of the bracelet. However, this is not a very clean method, so Formex came up with another solution and designed a screw with an offset thread. This allows the moving parts of the link to be freely defined, but the twisted sections remain firmly separated from the mechanical stress. Very smart, very form sex.
Ease of mind
The Formex Essence 41mm Space Ghost checks out Sellita’s famous SW200-1 automatic movement. It operates at a frequency of 28,800VPH, features 26 gems and holds a power reserve of 41 hours. Equipped with a custom Formax rotor, it is COSC certified to ensure that it runs between -4 to +6 seconds per day in terms of accuracy. Control your movements with the crown at 3am. This crown can be screwed in to make it easier when going for a swim. It appears they have heard Vincent’s wish for such a under-screw crown.
Currently available for shipment in September
The new Formex Essence 41mm Space Ghost is currently available for pre-order and will begin shipping for one month. You can choose to get the watch with a newly developed bracelet or one of the options of leather, elastic or nylon straps. All come with carbon fiber deployment clasps and a patented, progressive 7mm micro adjustment system. It costs 2,090 euros for the strap and 2,190 euros for the bracelet.
Formex’s muscularity and technical style aren’t that for me, but I think so. The high-tech features that allow the brand to fit inside a 2,000 euro watch are impressive, with quality levels well above its price range. If this style is yours, Formex Essence is something you should seriously consider. Particularly, it is now available in the new 41mm size and comes with a beautiful Met stone dial.
