Buffy Acacia blends modernity with 1959 vintage style and Buffy Acacia finds herself in a world of retro joy. The sporadic pixels on the dial explore the gradient of tones from blue to purple, pink to pink. Equipped with a caliber 80 with an 80-hour power reserve, the 37mm round case is versatile for all genders.
For better or worse, Pretend lives in the heart of watchmaking. It makes it so exciting and strips away the stifling idea of unnecessary justification when the brand is not afraid to run with a playful concept for play. The Mido Commander 1959 Pixel crushes two completely different worlds, films Heritage Watch and uses pixelated multi-colored dials to give you a new lease. Combined with the convenience of an 80-hour automatic movement, this watch is a watch that you can wear whenever you want to bring out a smile.
Despite the very modern approach to the design of the Mido Commander 1959 Pixel, its different period combination seems to find the perfect resting place for retro nostalgia. The bracelet and dial layout, typical of all the late 50s and early 60s, is drawn forward into the area of the late 70s or 80s by pixel dials. You can see that Mido might have been aiming for something even more modern, but the entire watch looks like a disco ball with the blue, pink and purple lighting of a dance club. This effect is even more pronounced at night thanks to the coloured Super Luminova, with some of those squares glowing in low light. The overall shine is enhanced by grain texture and scattered uneven pixel distribution. Various application dial components have also been added to the light show, with their facets that easily capture light between the brush and polished surfaces.
Reflecting the refined style of the original Mido Commander from 1959, the 37mm Pebble case has risen slightly for a modern taste. However, it does not sacrifice the original style. Complete with a bezel with a channel and a complete lack of rugs to support an integrated Milanese mesh bracelet. This is a two-piece case. In other words, the bezel is part of the monocoque case and helps keep the thickness at a height of 10.5mm. It’s surprisingly thin for automatic watches, and the water resistance of 50m makes it not recommended for swimming, but it reduces water anxiety. Because there is no lug, the 37mm case diameter is also its length, making it completely flexible to wear for your gender. Another fascinating aspect of this MIDO is the use of acrylic crystals. This is a good option for those who have never embraced the hype of sapphire, not just vintage examples. Acrylic often gives a softer, more diffused glow from the reflections of the lighting, and the scratches it produces arise from being a relatively soft plastic. Simple plastic polishing compounds and microfiber cloth make it easy to polish at home.
As a member of the Swatch Group family, Mido benefits from being one of the last brands that have free access to ETA movements. The Calibre 80 is based on ETA C07.621 and is a modern classic in ETA catalogue. The architecture is always based on the reliable ETA 2824-2, but has a slow beat rate of 21,600 VPH and a much longer power reserve of 80 hours. It’s an automatic movement, but can be refilled by hand, and the caliber is hidden in a solid caseback decorated with several specifications and MIDO Ocean Star Shield.
