Andrew O’Connor will be in the Millgraph building from 2024, and MicromilSpec will launch a new pilot series along with pilot WorldTimer. One of the first committees of MicroMilSpec was a pilot’s watch built for the Norwegian Air Force. That’s why this World Timer is an early nod. It has a case in titanium and features an A La Joux-Perret L122, providing excellent specifications and a robust build.
MicroMilSpec began in 2019 as a military contractor providing customized watches built for military forces around the world. The brand has expanded its private offering and global presence over the past 18 months, bringing its model to the public limited to annual production. The brand’s second attendance at this year’s Geneva Watch Days will be accompanied by a new model, Pilot World Timer.
A continuation of the Millgraph Chronograph, Pilot World Timer features a traditional crown and pusher layout, with a truly monochromatic dialing scheme and a ceramic rotating bezel with signs of World City. From day one, MicroMilSpec has a rather recognizable aesthetic, but it is clear that with Millgraph and now pilot World Timer, they are committed to this extremely robust and recognizable silhouette.
The complete specifications include a 42mm wide Grade 5 titanium case measuring 15mm thick, 50.3mm lagtoo lag, and is water resistant to 200 meters. There is a 20mm lug, but comes standard with a rubber strap with a titanium pin buckle that gives it an integrated look. The case is mostly brushed and has polished edges to define the case line.
Available with black or white dials, the matte dial has a granular finish and is applied with indexes and hands filled with Super Luminova X1. There is a date opening at 3am, and the chronograph has chronograph times at 12pm and 6am. The ceramic bezel insert features a polished matte finish with the city’s name rising to provide contrast. There is also a titanium bracelet with a butterfly clasp that integrates with the case, creating a continuous line from the outer lug to the clasp.
Behind the solid case of MicroMilSpec pilot WorldTimer’s backback is the La Joux-Perret L122 automatic chronograph movement. With a width of 30.4mm and thickness of 7.9mm, the L122 runs at 4 Hz, with hacking seconds, 26 gems and a power reserve of 60 hours. The GMT function is a “caller” style GMT, with the crown in the second position set independently of the main time. The date is also modified in the second position, with the time set with the crown pulled out to the third position. The L100 series movement is derived from the Valjoux 7750, but La Joux-Perret replaced the Cam operating design with a column wheel, allowing for more accurate start and stopping of the chronograph.
To use the rotating World Time bezel, align the bezel with the GMT hand. If the 24-hour hand is set to London (ignoring GMT/UTC, daylight savings), turn the bezel and set London to where the 24-hour hand is pointing. If your 24-hour hand is pointing at 8pm (8pm) and you have your bezels set up, you can see the offsets of different cities. For example, 8:00 UTC is equivalent to 1pm (3pm) in New York.
Having immediate access to world time references is especially useful if you are in contact with multiple people far from where you are. A quick turn on the bezel lets you see if it’s a good time to schedule a video call while traveling.
