MB&F’s collaboration with master engraver Eddy Jaquet began in 2020 with a series of eight unique watches with engraved dials inspired by Jules Verne’s novels. By the way, this series won the GPHG Arts and Crafts Award in 2021. Three years after the awards party, it’s time to launch a series of eight more unique watches inspired by the great classics of youth literature.
MB&F × Eddy Jaquet LM Split Escapement: Ins and Outs
The 44 mm steel case Legacy Machine Split Escapement is the basis for today’s new watches, which feature engravings of The Three Musketeers, The Jungle Book, and Robinson Crusoe. These three were the first to be prepared and then painted sculptures inspired by “The Call of the Wild,” “The Last of the Mohicans,” “Moby Dick,” “Robin Hood,” and “Treasure Island.” The series will be completed with a watch.
The technical basis is the movement developed by Stephen McDonnell for MB&F. This hand-wound caliber vibrates at 2.5Hz and has a 72-hour power reserve. It features a split escapement, with the balance wheel suspended above the dial and the pallet pallet and escape wheel below.

The watch has a large sub-dial at the 12 o’clock position that shows the time. Furthermore, a small openwork subdial at 4 o’clock indicates the remaining power reserve, and a skeleton subdial at 8 o’clock displays the date. The date can be adjusted using the push button next to the pointer date on the left side of the case.
Eddie Jacquet goes to work
The engraved dial is the main attraction of the first three new MB&F × Eddy Jaquet LM Split Escapement 2024 series watches. Before taking the job, Jacquet selected eight from a list of 15 classic novels and created completely original illustrations for them. He did not use existing art, as he did with Jules Verne’s watches. Instead, after reading the selected book, he came up with something completely new and original.

The result is a watch that doubles as an expressive tableau. Introducing the main characters, scenes, and key moments from classic youth novels. Jaquet engraved his image on the dial of the LM SE movement (in 18K white gold for this series). Additionally, the bezel is slimmer than a “normal” LM split escapement to ensure that the engraving receives enough light and all the attention it deserves. Additionally, the rings around the sub-dials are black for optimal contrast. Each unique piece retails for $188,000 before tax.
