Jaeger-Lecoultre announces a new and refined interpretation of the Master Grande Tradition Caliber 985 and Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon, following the successful Reverso’s heavy watches and wonders.
The Master Grande Tradition Caliber 985 displays three new variants. One features a brown dial with rose gold, two with a platinum with a blue dial, and the other with a diamond set bezel. Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon also gets a rose gold/brown dial incarnation.
Master Grande’s Traditional Collection is where Jaeger-Lecoultre presents some of its finest innovative high-end watchmaking. The models in this collection are focused on the most intricate calibers and beautiful finishes, and are intended to impress even the most experienced and discerning collectors. 2025 may be “Reverso’s Year,” at least according to CEO Jerome Lambert, who has returned, but JLC believes this September is a fitting one to give a bit of love to the Master Grande’s tradition range.
Jaeger-lecoultre Master Grande Traditional Caliber 985
The Caliber 985 was released in 2013 and has put together a permanent calendar with an automatic movement, a MoonPhase display and a 60-second flying tour bellon. Consisting of 431 parts, including 49 gems, the permanent calendar tracks one day, date, month, year (including jumping years) and accurate display of the lunar phase (assuming it continues to run) for 122 years. It has a 45-hour power reserve with a beat rate of 28,800 bph, with a diameter of 30mm and a thickness of 8.25mm. The movement’s decorations include blue screws, sunray coat degeneves and 22k gold rotors with engraved Sunrays, and replicas of the gold medal awarded to Antoine Recour at the 1851 Grand Exhibition in London.
Jaeger-Lecoultre sees it as a continuation of Antoine Lecoultre’s achievements, pursuing high precision and maintaining fine finishing standards. One of the features Jaeger-Lecoultre highlights in this model is the ability to manufacture its own S-shaped cylindrical hairspring. Invented in 1776, but largely forgotten until the 21st century, the development chose to manufacture its own hairspring in this way to provide more stability in any position, regardless of the amplitude of the balance wheel (the degree to which it vibrates frequently). Titanium use for Tourbillon Cage will further utilize this development as the lighter cage reduces the impact of Tourbillon on the balance wheel.
The new Master Grande Tradition Caliber 985 case is almost as complicated as exercise. The lug, consisting of over 80 components, is screwed into the case and a blend of brushed, polished, microblasted finishes is used to highlight the complexity of the case and the ability to achieve high-level case finishes to achieve high-level case finishes. The width of the lug is 42mm in diameter and 13.27mm thick, the width is 22mm. The newer version of the lug will flow from the case band rather than appearing more structurally in the previous version. The case is also water resistant to 50 meters, adding impressive practicality to a highly efficient watch.
The dial features a 6 o’clock tour billon and also serves as a display of seconds running on a 22-second scale at the bottom of the opening. Weekday and Moon Phase displays are at 3am, month with openings is at 12pm, and dates are at 9am. The two-stage dial separates the tour bellon from the other dials, clearly separated by hand edges. The oparin subdial features a microblast finish on the outer edge and frams the dial and subdial, just like the outer Minute Track.
In total, there are three variations in the new Master Grande tradition. One is rose gold, one is platinum and the other is platinum with a baguette diamond set bezel. The rose gold variant has a brown dial with a brown alligator strap and an 18k rose gold folding buckle. The platinum variation features a blue dial that matches the blue crocodile strap and the platinum pin buckle. All straps have a quick release spring bar for easy strap changes.

Jaeger-lecault Master Ultra Cin Tourbillon Enamel
The Master Ultra Sin Collection is another aspect of Jaeger-Lecoultre’s mastery of watchmaking. As many models still showcase complications, the focus of the ultra-thin collection is to develop movements and cases that allow for streamlined designs and elegant wearing experiences. The new Master Ultra Cin Tourbillon enamel is a detail of the existing Master Ultra Cin Tourbillon model and is a continuation of the enamel model since 2019. The actual highlight is the charcoal gray dial. The finishing of the sun is achieved by hand guilloche, with each of the 180 “sunrays” requires six lathes. After engraving, it becomes enamel by hand, requires 5 layers of enamel, each layer must be fired at 800 degrees, then cooled properly to produce the desired effect of color depth and strength.
The Caliber 978 is used in the new Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon enamel. The movement won the International Chronometry Award in the same year it was announced in 2009. In 2019, it was updated to include titanium tourbillon cages. The Caliber 978 is 7.1mm thick, displays the date via the hours, minutes, and 12 o’clock sub-dial and runs for a few seconds via the opening of the tourbillon at 6 o’clock. The movement runs at 28,800 bph, has a 45-hour power reserve, 33 gems and has automatic winding via gold rotors. This movement is decorated with blue screws, coated degeneves and engraved rotors.
The 18k pink gold case has a diameter of 40mm and a thickness of 12.13mm, and is water resistant to 50m. The 21mm strap is made of black crocodile, has a quick release spring bar, and doubles the 18K pink gold buckle.
