value. I know that among all the noise in the luxury watch industry, what sticks out the most for many people is the incredible value proposition. I mean, even if you’re wealthy, who doesn’t like getting their money’s worth? I also know how much I enjoyed the video of the Bulova Jet Star, a casual everyday wearer with a handsome case and attractive Precisionist quartz movement. Now, this striking quartz movement has been given a design inspired by the 70’s automatic Day-Date from the brand’s archives, elevating the elegance factor – the Bulova Super Seville. Beware of spoilers. Prices start at $695 USD.
case
When you look at the Super Seville, you’ll immediately notice some pretty iconic design features, like the fluted bezel and the Cyclops-enlarged date window. Then we had this kind of Beta 21-era kind of TV cushion case. It is extremely compact with a diameter of 37.5 mm, a thickness of approximately 10.5 mm, and a lug-to-lug length of 42.3 mm. The vintage style proportions are very nice.
Whether you choose one of the two stainless steel models or the single gold-tone steel model, the exterior finish is the same, with a brushed finish across the case. The elegance of the mixed finish stands out, given the polished fluting on the bezel and the wide mirror-polished center links on the bracelet that match the case.
dial
The three dials are similarly nicely finished, with the stainless steel model available with a blue or green dial (two fan favorites and the certified dial color of the year), and the gold-tone model It has a finish like never before. – complains to Silver. These are probably one of the three safest colors they can offer, giving the steel model a splash of color while also offering the boldest case and bracelet (gold tone), the safest and most subdued dial. I think it was wise to give.
Bulova has opted for a rich vertical brush on the main dial surface rather than an obvious sunburst finish. However, the outer periphery features a slightly raised minute track with a matte finish, albeit in the same color as the dial, with Roman numerals corresponding to each applied hour index. The edges of the central hour and minute hands and applied hour markers incorporate a luminous coating for visibility in the dark. And, as mentioned before, it has a Cyclops-like enlarged date complication, with a black-on-white disc at 3 o’clock in all configurations, making it easy for anyone to get their hands on. This is a possible placement.
bracelet
Unless the aftermarket comes to your rescue, it’s very difficult to find a leather or rubber strap that fits the Super Seville’s integrated design. That being said, I think it would be a crime to take this watch off the bracelet. Creates a retro and sophisticated atmosphere. It also further enhances the beauty of the mixed finish and enhances the elegance of its look and feel. The bracelet has a nice taper and I’m definitely a fan of its butterfly clasp. This style of clasp, at least in my opinion, does a good job of keeping the center of the watch centered on the wrist, and once folded, the clasp isn’t too long (and therefore doesn’t create too much of a fixed flare).
It’s worth noting that on Bulova’s website, you can adjust the size of the watch to fit a 6.5-inch wrist before shipping via the size adjustment drop-down menu. Many of the links are not removable, so if your wrist is smaller than 6.5 inches, please contact Bulova before trying on a metal watch or ordering online. I also believe that if surgery on the bracelet is absolutely necessary, the watchmaker can cut the non-removable links.
movement
Enough about the appearance. It looks great, but what makes this watch stand out, especially for the price, is Bulova’s HPQ Precisionist quartz movement. For those unfamiliar, the Precisionist movement (advertised at the 6 position on the dial, although I humbly say it shouldn’t be) is a 262kHz quartz movement with an annual Not only is it accurate to within 10 seconds, it also features a fluid sweep seconds hand similar to Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive. Additionally, the battery is said to last for four years before needing replacement. So, apart from the moment you leave your time zone or certain months when you need to correct the date, the Bulova Super Seville is a hassle-free, sync-once, set-it-and-forget watch.
judgment
Quartz snobs are quartz snobs, but my complaints about quartz watches that tell seconds have nothing to do with batters. In fact, I hate deadbeat seconds, whether they’re quartz or mechanical. But this slippery seconds hand is very quiet to watch, and this beauty, combined with an effortless and robust movement, offers a unique experience that you won’t find anywhere else in the sub-$1,000 price range.

Looking at its vintage inspiration models, it would be impossible to say that the 70’s Seville did not borrow from Rolex’s aesthetic. However, the modern Super Sevilla has been remixed enough to distinguish itself externally, while still drawing on its familiar design cues, and internally moving from an automatic movement to a unique Precisionist movement. Now I can be independent.
This watch would be the epitome of what I call “rugged elegance” (shout out Time+Tide Tribe) if it had a depth rating of over 30 meters. I think I wanted at least 50 points. If Bulova had reached 100 points, I think this watch would have been rated 11/10. That would make it an undisputed option to move people away from digital watches and smartwatches and back to analog watches. While the Precisionist movement is something Bulova is very proud of, I don’t think it was necessary to include the branding at 6 o’clock on the dial, which in no way solves the problem. I think it’s hard to beat this at this price point for handsome, affordable, and high-performance land-dwelling everyday wear.
