We caught up with Horage at WatchPro Salon 2024 in London last month to see some pieces from the brand’s upcoming Omnium K2 collection. The faceted crystal makes these watches noticeably different from dress watches. I came away impressed with their creative approach.
Horage has been in business for 15 years, but over the past few years the company has become even more well-known. Watches like the Lensman and Microreg have received praise for their innovation and affordability. While not as bold as those releases, the new Omnium K2 offers a unique take on the dress watch, a genre that continues to grow in popularity.
Horage Omnium K2 Collection
The latest Horage watches come in 37.3 mm cases made of 904L stainless steel, Pt950 platinum, or 18K 3N yellow gold. Most case materials are available with midnight blue, white, or pink dials. The exception is that pink is exclusive to two precious metals. The case length is only 43.8 mm, so it will fit most wrists. The movement is a key element of the Omnium K2’s slim 7.95mm profile, but let’s spend some time on the most interesting design aspect.
triple faceted sapphire crystal
The new Omnium K2 features a triple-faceted sapphire crystal with a five-layer anti-reflective coating on the underside. This is a bold choice from Horage and is reminiscent of vintage tank-style watches such as Patek Philippe. More recently, in the 70s, brands such as Rado and Seiko reached a wide audience with their sculptural pieces. Normally I prefer traditional crystals, but this makes the omnium stand out from the crowd. Additionally, this design continues effortlessly down to the lugs with pronounced facets that curve towards the wrist. Coupled with the dark blue alligator pattern rubber strap, the overall look is cool.
Dial with three-dimensional numbers
All dials have a matte surface and a small seconds register with a satin finish. The deeply angled rehaul functions as a minute track. And molded luminous hour numerals were chosen, perhaps to counteract the depth between the dial surface and the crystal. With a pink dial, these are a matching shade of pink. The white model features contrasting red numbers, while the navy model features white. All models feature diamond-cut hands with white luminescent inserts. It looks fine, but it’s a little too quirky for my taste. Again, for those looking for an alternative design to a dress watch, it might work.
K2 movement inside
Horage has equipped the Omnium K2 with a micro-rotor automatic movement. The K2 caliber is 2.9 mm thick and has a 72-hour power reserve. It is also chronometer certified. Unlike some micro-rotor movements that use incredibly slow frequencies, the K2 operates at 25,200 vibrations per hour. It also includes modern elements such as a hairspring, escape wheel and silicone anchor.
Can be used on almost any wrist
The dimensions of the Omnium K2 may seem small, but the slim lugs and bezel make the watch appear much larger. Plus, the 20mm lug spacing means the watch doesn’t look flimsy, and the strap options are endless. Some people compare this watch to the Nomos Tangente, and the cases are certainly similar. However, while the Horage looks more substantial, it doesn’t have the long (some would say too long) lag of the Nomos.
Omnium K2 pricing and final thoughts
Horage Omnium K2 has a variety of prices and shipping dates. The stainless steel model costs CHF 4,590 and comes with a steel pin buckle. These watches begin shipping now. The yellow gold model retails for CHF 11,990, and buyers can add an optional gold pin buckle for CHF 1,800. Finally, the platinum version is priced at CHF 14,990, with a white gold buckle available for an additional charge of CHF 1,800. Shipping of the precious metal pieces is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2025.
For an unusual watch that is 98% Swiss made, these are an interesting choice. But what do you think of Horage’s latest model? Let us know in the comments.
