This new version of the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 45mm watch in steel with a green ceramic bezel is the latest addition to the Swiss brand’s hugely popular Wear OS-based smartwatch collection. Over the past few years, TAG Heuer has dominated the luxury smartwatch market when it comes to products featuring Google’s popular smartwatch operating system environment. While there are certainly other competitors in the luxury smartwatch market (although the field is still decidedly niche), some of these competitors (Hublot and Louis Vuitton, for example) are sister brands to TAG Heuer. That said, TAG Heuer is currently the leader when it comes to blending a sleek designer look with a modern, sporty smartwatch hardware experience and this popular operating system.
TAG Heuer is special in that, although it does not rely on the standard WearOS system, the Swiss brand has a dedicated facility in Paris with special software and design teams to create the software and graphics layer that builds on the base operating system environment. TAG Heuer has made great strides with the dials of its Connected smartwatches becoming increasingly beautiful and functional. New for 2024, TAG Heuer will also launch a series of digital watch dials for the Connected that are reminiscent of many of TAG Heuer’s traditional watches currently on sale. The idea is to add brand personality to the Connected smartwatch’s user interface as well as to lead the wearer to purchase TAG Heuer’s more traditional luxury watch products in the future. Either way, the display on the watch’s AMOLED screen under the sapphire crystal is bright, sharp, and easy to read.
We understand that TAG Heuer has quietly updated its connected smartwatch with new hardware, but this reference The SBR8A14.BT6317 is part of Connected’s E4 generation hardware and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100+ processor. The case is equipped with all the standard smartwatch sensors and features, including a heart rate monitor. Activity and fitness tracking is a very popular use case for modern smartwatches, and TAG Heuer even has its own sports tracking software layer (with very good graphics). Overall, I can’t think of any major smartwatch features that are missing from the TAG Heuer Connected E4.
Much of TAG Heuer’s aesthetic effort with the Connected family has been to make them more wearable and more traditional in style (rather than looking like a wearable gadget). Compared to mainstream smartwatches, this means that the case and materials of the TAG Heuer Connected are a major upgrade in terms of style and quality. This includes a polished steel case with finely machined surfaces, a scratch-resistant green ceramic bezel, and a comfort-fitting rubber strap that can be easily swapped for other colors and available matching bracelets. In addition to being 45mm wide (TAG Heuer also makes a 42mm wide version of the Connected), the smartwatch is 15.3mm thick and water-resistant to 50 meters.
Another big news for TAG Heuer in 2024, when it comes to non-traditional products, is the relaunch of its eyewear division. TAG Heuer was very successful selling glasses and sunglasses until the early 2000s. However, due to legal reasons and the exclusion of a major supplier, TAG Heuer was forced to stop selling eyewear for a few years. After investing in the latest technology and novel product collections, TAG Heuer is back with a lot of really great new products. I had the chance to try all the new TAG Heuer glasses and really appreciated the technology, style, and (most importantly) the comfort of the products. These are not just sunglasses licensing cash cows, but genuinely original and innovative products.
I photographed one of the new TAG Heuer glasses with the green ceramic version of the Connected Calibre E4. These glasses are a version of the new TAG Heuer VINGT SEPT family (the one that fits my head and face best) and should be available to buy soon from TAG Heuer or wherever you buy high-end glasses. Returning to smartwatches, the new reference SBR8A14.BT6317 TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 watch will be priced at $1,750 USD. For more information, visit the TAG Heuer website.
