Hands-on: Atelier Wen Perception Titanium Millésime Mù

Over the past two years, Atelier Wen’s popularity has grown rapidly. This independent brand shines a positive light on Chinese watchmaking while producing attractive timepieces with finishes and materials typically found on more expensive watches. To celebrate the fans who have brought so much success to the company, a limited edition Perception Titanium Millésime Mù is available to order.

Ever since I met Atelier Wen co-founder Robin Tallendier in London and tried on Perception, I’ve been keenly following the brand’s every move. What I witnessed was a commitment to continuous improvement. We’ve made small changes to the case shape, bracelet design, and other tweaks to improve the fit and finish of our popular bracelet-integrated watch. Just last month, we had the pleasure of meeting Robin again during the 2024 Geneva Watch Days. He has two upcoming releases. One of them is made of tantalum and will be on its way to us soon. The other is the Perception Titanium Millésime Mù, which is the focus of today’s practice review.

The Atelier Wen Perception Titanium Millésime Mù

The new Perception Titanium Millésime Mu is the brand’s first non-collaborative limited edition. This is also the first of the annual Millesime projects. This is a limited release project to commemorate fans of the brand. For 2024, the first edition of Mù (meaning “friendship”) leverages several key points.

First, Mù is the first titanium Perception with the improvements presented in Perception 2.0. These include more tapered bracelets with finishing between the links and smaller clasps with an easy-to-use micro-adjustment system. What’s more, this watch looks fierce with its purple dial.

We’ve talked in articles and podcasts about how purple has taken the mantle from green as the new “it” color of 2024. Perception Titanium Millésime Moo is a slightly lighter shade than other brands, combined with a handmade fish scale guilloché pattern. . Atelier Wen spent time prototyping colors before deciding on the final PVD shade. The purple color was first seen on a tantalum prototype at this year’s Watches and Wonders event, and the response was so positive that the team decided to build it. Depending on the lighting, the color changes from deep purple to a light silver hue.

Great size, can be attached to a bracelet or lanyard at home

The Perception Titanium Millésime Mù is made from grade 5 material and has a diameter of 40 mm and a lug-to-lug length of 47 mm. The 9.4mm thickness includes a double-domed sapphire crystal with 10 layers (!!) of anti-reflective coating. Water resistant to 100m, suitable for everyday use. The watch comes standard with the brand’s comfortable integrated bracelet with push-button folding clasp. You can also choose a rubber strap with a folding clasp. If you ask me, I’d choose both for maximum versatility.

Like previous Perception models, the Mù uses a Dandong SL1588A automatic movement. Partially visible from the back of the display case, it contains a purple rhodium plated rotor. The case back is engraved with a lion motif.

Perfect for your hands and wrists

I’ve always enjoyed the steel Perception on my wrist, thanks to its reasonable case size and thickness. This titanium version is even better due to its lighter weight and slightly darker case tone. I tried it many times in Geneva and it felt like I was wearing or owning a watch from a long-established brand. That’s very good. As your wrist moves, the dial dances in the light, making it one of the most visually appealing watches I’ve tried.

Buy Perception Titanium Millésime Mù

The good news is that you can order the new Perception Titanium Millésime Mù from now until October 21st on Atelier Wen’s website for $3,588 USD. The brand will also be accepting orders for some live events, slightly exceeding online ordering quotas. Once all these orders are received, no further watches will be manufactured, but all orders will be fulfilled. The watch is expected to be delivered in May 2025.

But that’s not all! The first 88 online orders will come with a special leather strap made especially for this watch. Otherwise, the strap will not be available. And in true Charlie and the Chocolate Factory style, three random buyers open the box to find a tantalum ticket and a tantalum watch. Overall, this is a great release and I like the long order period for potential buyers. This will give you plenty of time to consider whether this eye-catching watch is suitable for your wrist.
