Borna Bošnjak Moser adopted the Flight Time Model from its effort into the Pioneer Collection, adding instant jumps in the process. The huge 42.8mm case is sporty with finish and water resistant, with a classic Mosermen’s or Aventie Line dial. The company’s Aventurine model with its HMC 240 caliber is limited to 100, while the white model shows a wider release.
Of all the Swiss brands out there, I am very comfortable saying that H. Moser and CIE are the farthest cheeks and are the most serious in themselves. But if you know anything about Moser, you’ll know that this never undermines the quality and execution of the watch. The debuting Pioneer’s flight times become classics that bring about the complexity of Moser’s recognizable and luxurious style, mechanically improving its predecessor in a prominent way. It’s been seven years since Moser announced his efforts’s flight time. The intersecting discs convey time in stencil typeface numbers on a blue bull background. If that’s the clock that Moser was using to learn to walk, then the new Pioneer flight time is to let them learn how to jump. Instant!
Rather than showing his work, Moser hides a 3-hour satellite disc under the solid dial, but the central Trice Pork Minute Wheel (can I call it a hand?) increases visual prioritization, but changes, now displays a tiny arc at a third of the perimeter, doubles the space of Endeve. Time is highlighted with three openings, which are normally 12, 4, and 8 o’clock. Aesthetically, we could see the discussion progressing in either way, but this change now shows an update to the gearing of movement that rotates the central Minute Wheel more slowly.
It’s actually very intuitive to read a clock. The rounded rectangular time opening contains small indents, so a small arrow is pointed below the printed number and acts as a pointer to the minute wheel, allowing you to quickly align at the correct time. In the example above, it is currently 10:20.
At launch, Moser offers two colour variations. The 5N red gold and DLC titanium case features smoking hot aventurine with case matching gold accents and a more minimal white chubby and steel combo. Also, something very Moser-like is sizing. Pioneers have a flight time of 42.8mm in diameter, and if you’ve ever worn a Moser, you know that those lugs aren’t even suppressed either. What was even more surprising was the thickness measurements. The titanium model is 14.2mm, and the 5N gold is 16.1mm.
Certainly these are complex watches with a 120m water resistance, but if you ever had an excuse to call the THICC watch, this is my time of brilliance. The truth is said, that is one of the reasons why I feel hesitant to have so many people (like me) interested in Moser.
One thing that can’t be blamed for Moser is that he doesn’t actually do anything in that room. The brand makes the most of its modularly friendly HMC 200 caliber, and this particular brand has won the HMC 240 moniker. This is a great example of what a “modern” clock decoration should look like. It is rooted in tradition, but is performed in a fresh, modern way – something that is not usually found in the “basic level” HMC 200S. The specs are also impressive, with a three-day power reserve and flat overcoil hairspring, and it was produced by a Moser-owned company with the escape, making it a rare thing these days. For 5N gold models, the steel models are treated with a red gold rotor while they have a tungsten number.
A major upgrade here is that, as in its predecessor, it can slowly crawl by pointing at two hours simultaneously, potentially confusing the wearer. The flight times for pioneers are that they can jump instantly time as they pass. Knowing this, Moser’s choice to cover Planetary Hour Discs makes even more sense, so in true Moser style, it’s a truly minimal dial that the brand’s logo or name is not featured anywhere.
