Zach Black Grand Seiko will debut the second regular production tentagraph, the SLGC007. Again it will be performed with a high strength titanium case and bracelet. It has a built-in “Snow Blue” dial with the new Panda Aesthetic, featuring a black counter and an outside minute track that controls the dial.
At Grand Seiko, we are used to growing rapidly throughout our collection. Folding was an exception to the rules. The only production model debuted two years ago with the SLGC001 from Wonders 2023. Here, two years later, production follow-up has finally arrived – the folding of the Grand Seiko SLGC007 was announced side-by-side with the release of W&W 2025, including the release of W&W 2025.
The watch is the same as its predecessor. Grand Seiko SLGC007 runs in a high-strength titanium case and bracelet, just like the SLGC001. It also clocks with the same measurement value and is 43.2mm in diameter, 15.3mm thick, and 51.5mm lugs. I haven’t tried this new SLGC007 yet, but I have been able to have months of practical experience with SLGC001. And even my small 6.5 inches or very authors believe that dimensions are far better than reading on paper. The pleasant ergonomics of watches are only understood on the wrist, and although it is a titanium watch, there is some weight on the wrist due to the caliber.
Ultimately, the real novelty of this new Grand Seiko SLGC007 is its new dial. You can also use the IWATE Mt. Iwate dial texture found in SLGC001, but this time it is given a Panda-style remix. Grand Seiko describes its main color as “snow blue.” The render depicts a dial that looks like gray in a slight pale blue hue, a clear departure from the SLGC001’s complete indigo blue. This is due to the use of the new “Snow Blue” dial as well as the black chronograph counter and minutes track surrounding the dial, but the ceramic bezel surrounding the dial remains black with a white inlay. Inside, there is an in-house 9SC5 movement with dual impulse escapes and a 72-hour power reserve (even if the chronograph is running).
Grand Seiko ran the extra mile for the SLGC001 and perfectly matched the Indigo Blue dial with the white blue date disc, but I have to say I’m a bit disappointed. I understand the logic that it’s better for a white background to blend in with the bright shades of “snow blue,” but in the end it stands out a little. Contrast is introduced with a black counter, so I think it would be better to lean over it and match the color scheme and date window of the three counters and ceramic bezel. Just my opinion. Again, perhaps the white on-black discs have broken the symmetry of the three counters.
I will save my final verdict until I practice it, but aside from my preference for the dial, I highly recommend experiencing it with metal.
