Borna Bošnjak Genta’s favorite complications come back in a Squircle Gold case decorated with a Black Onyx dial. The new Gérald Genta Minute Repeater is trying to adapt complications to skulls that appear to have been designed by Genta himself. The Genta Minute Repeater, powered by the GG-002, a manual movement developed by La Fabrique Du Temps, is limited to 10 units per year.
Louis Vuitton’s La Fabrique Du Temps has been a cradle of watch development over the last few years, offering brands a very complicated movement and bringing back others. We have seen Daniel Ross’ name finally do justice, but Gerald Ghent, another famous person at the Maison, was somewhat quiet. It’s been more than two years since the big announcement that a brand named after a popular designer in the world of watches is coming back, and it’s been our repetition that (clearly cute Schmick) that has had to show it to date. However, given the LFT’s Barbasini and Navas duo were at the forefront, most suspected they wouldn’t be worried, given their past with the Genta brand. Today we are finally seeing the fruits of their labor. It was when Gérald Genta announced a new tiny repeater.
Unlike Oursin, the new Minute Repeater is not originally a form written by Genta, but rather the brand’s current artistic director Matthieu Hegi. Still, I really think it captures the best of the best, turning down the traditional oval side and bowing enough aspects to make it clear. In fact, the case design is very simple. While the slider is subtly integrated into the left side, the lug protrudes at both ends of the case and sticks the straps. What surprised me was that it was 40mm in diameter. Given the general trends in general sizes of Genta, it is larger than expected.

Complete the aesthetics of the case is the onyx cabochon, which matches the natural stone slices used in the dial. Such a very simple design allows small details to be created or broken. I’m pleased to be the former in the Minute Repeater case. The index and hand are simple, a case matching baton, and Geraldgent’s name is also spelled out in a minimal, low-case font. However, for example, take a look at the Railroad Minute track. It helps to transition the shape of the round shape of the case to the circular dial by gently magnifying at each corner, giving even this simple dial a dynamic twist. It’s really amazing.
Strangely enough, for an instantaneous watch, the LFT’s Boffins opted for a sapphire caseback instead of solid gold. I’m not complaining about getting an unobstructed view of movement, but I wonder how that has affected the resonance of sound. And speaking of this movement, the new GG-002 extends the burning trail with the perpetual calendar of the legendary G2015 minute repeaters, but slightly simplifies the formula to include only Genta’s favorite complications.
It features a single gong stuck on the case for better sound propagation, and an octagonal inertial wheel. The finish is as high as expected. The brand emphasizes hand-painted bevels and rounded elongated clicks. As for performance, details like Beatrates are not specified at publication, but you can expect an 80-hour power reserve that is manually replenished.
