I visited with Armin Strom since the time of Baselworld. In fact, the brand was founded in 2009 by Serge Michel and Claude Graceler, a beer in Switzerland. This makes it relatively speaking one of Haute Horlogerie’s “old security guards.” Certainly, my interest in this style of openwork watch has only just begun, and I am now enjoying looking at the watch and listening to the rationale behind each one. But often, I get to follow the brand more closely, as the watches come and catch me.
In August 2024, I was appointed Armin Strom and turned to the new Dual Time GMT Resonance – First Edition. This white gold watch with a twin sky blue grindage dial was gorgeous. Its diameter is 39mm, making it even more attractive. Sadly, I had missed the 133,300 euros needed to bring it home. Still, I have been keeping my eye on Armin Strom ever since. A few months ago, the brand introduced three novelties to Watches and Wonders 2025, sharing one in a touch and feel session. Let’s have a quick look at new works.
Armin Strom One Week Skeleton Titanium
The market for Integ-Bracelet Watch may seem full, but there is always room for effort from brands like Armin Strom. The new weekly skeleton titanium shows more open work than the original 2023 model. Thankfully, the watch is not transparent so you won’t see unsightly wrist hair as a backdrop for a nice finish. This 41mm x 44.35mm watch has a slim 10.6mm profile. Made from grade 5 titanium, it has a depth rating of 10 atm.
Visible highlights include openwork minority displays and twin barrels with the trademark Armin Strom Bridges. The view through the sapphire display on the back is just as charming, flaunting some of the 35 gems. As the name suggests, the in-house ARM21-S caliber with manual scrolls provides a 7-day power reserve using two barrels. 100 of these watches are made, each at a price of 39,000 chf.
Purple orbit, date on demand
Armin Strom brought a new orbit purple sample to our meeting. In fact, the overall theme of the meeting was purple! This 43.4mm x 44.35mm piece has a small purple hume dial with a small second display. Again, the idea is to maximize skeletonized components while providing readability. The black case is DLC coated stainless steel and the bezel is ceramic. The black textile strap with DLC coated pin buckles matches the hyper modern style of the watch. Orbital Purple is a water resistant rating of 5 atm, retracting its large, sturdy appearance.
Turning the purple colour of the orbit reveals the company’s caliber Ass20 (the clock in the photo is a prototype) via a sapphire display. This automatic microrotor movement includes a comparable barrel and provides a 72-hour power reserve. However, the actual party tricks are enabled via the 10 o’clock pusher that works with the column wheel. This will move the resting purple arrow at the top of the dial on demand to the current date. It’s cool intricacy and shows why you enjoy small branded watches like Armin Strom. Of these pieces, they are available at a price of 36,000 times more.
Always my favorite – Dual-Time GMT Resonance
Last year’s dual-time GMT resonance was not a fluke as it was back again! However, this time the 39mm x 44.5mm case is made of stainless steel. The small sky blue dial also favors a black hand renage finish with a black azurage chapter ring. The day/night discs at the bottom of each dial are polished and black. Overall, it’s a more serious watch than the first edition, but still has a rating of 5 ATM depth. Perhaps the Taupe crocodile straps will need to be changed before hitting the pool. Despite the lack of colour, this is the beauty I want to hold on my wrist.
Again, the watch uses a branded ARF22 manual winding caliber with an independent regulatory system and a resonant clutch spring. It offers a 42-hour power reserve and is incredible to see the front or back, where a combination of finishing techniques is on display. The good news is that this limited edition of 50 pieces is cheaper than the original White Gold Reference. But it’s still 95,000 chf, so you have to keep saving!
Final Thoughts
Armin Strom has become one of my favourite brands. People are always friendly when they show their watches and the finish is impressive. What’s more, the fact that almost everything is made on the beer site is worthy of praise. I look forward to covering more releases this year. For now, let me know what you think about this latest trio.
