What strap do you wear your MoonSwatch on? Are you still using the original strap or did you order a third-party option? Well, hear me out. In a surprising move, Swatch has opened an online strap store exclusively for the Omega x Swatch Moon Swatch. The two-piece strap is made of rubber and has a two-tone design with a textile texture on the outside and a moon-like surface texture on the inside, with a Velcro closure. There are 11 color options, one for each original MoonSwatches, and five different sizes.
Finally!
To be honest, it was about time Swatch released a new collection of straps for their popular MoonSwatch. The original strap looks great, but it’s a little stiff and doesn’t age very well, so many people replace it with something else. I also did that on a mission to Saturn. My preference is the two-piece NATO-style strap by Esprit NATO, which matches well with the color of the watch. However, I also see a lot of people wearing curved end rubber straps with their MoonSwatches. But now, after almost three years, Swatch has finally introduced an official replacement strap. Let’s take a look.
New official MoonSwatch strap
To find a new strap, visit Swatch’s official website and hover over the MoonSwatch menu option at the top. There you’ll find the new strap section. To be clear, the Swatch website already has a strap section, but it’s not specifically dedicated to the MoonSwatch. This new section is also separate from the existing Strap Shop.
As mentioned earlier, there are 11 color options, one for each original MoonSwatch model. The rubber strap mimics the color combination of each MoonSwatches. That means a two-tone design with contrast stitching and printed branding. The short part of the strap says “MoonSwatch” and the long part says “Speedmaster.” There is also an Omega x Swatch logo right next to it. Depending on the version you choose, the bioceramic loops can be either contrasting or matching colors.
Unlike the original MoonSwatch straps, the lengths of the two parts of these new rubber straps are similar, especially when the Velcro part is folded. According to the photos on the website, the Velcro also appears to have less fuzz, which could mean it’s showing a little less wear. The inside of the strap has a contrasting colored rubber lining with a lunar texture for extra comfort. The strap also has a quick release spring bar so you can easily swap it out with another one. Finally, there are five sizes (XS to XL) that accommodate wrists from 13 to 20.5 cm.
first impression
I have to say, from what I see on the website, these look like a good option for MoonSwatch. The colors match the various MoonSwatch models perfectly and the straps look well made. I’d like to know how flexible it is, but it looks promising. The addition of the quick-release spring bar is a nice touch, and the fact that they come in a variety of sizes means you get the perfect fit rather than one size fits all. I even think the price of 45 euros is quite reasonable. Of course, there are cheaper options, but they don’t give you the official branding or exact color match.
Some may say this is too late. But for those looking for a nice OEM strap option for their MoonSwatch, I think these new straps are great. The strap is available exclusively online from Swatch’s official website. A strap replacement tool is also included to help remove the original strap.
