Hello. Welcome to Fratello Talks. Would you rather buy a microbrand watch or an entry-level legacy brand watch? That’s the question Nacho, Thomas and Rex are asking themselves today. This is certainly a valid point to ponder, as we are starting to see micro-brands develop and offer better quality and undeniable value while the entry-level big brands remain relatively stagnant. It has become a matter of fact. But do specs and value always trump name recognition? What about the difference in after-sales support? Traditional brands promise that their watches will be maintained even after 20 years. But can small and independent businesses deliver on that promise? Clearly, there are many factors to consider. Tune in to hear what we have to say, and join the discussion in the comments section below. But before we get into it, it’s time for a wrist check.

Let’s start with Rex. Rex complements his Canadian tuxedo with more denim on the wrists, courtesy of the Oris Divers 65 Momotaro Edition. As you can see, Rex loves indigo and can’t help but go all out when wearing denim. It’s not that he doesn’t want jeans. So no watch fits his style better than this denim-clad desk diver.
Unsurprisingly, Thomas is rocking a VPC Type 37HW on his wrist today. As I’ve said before, when you own a watch brand, you wear what you create. Thankfully, Thomas debuted VPC with three colorways on this watch, so you can mix and match while still sticking to the brand’s offering. Today he decided to dress down his Type 37HW Forest Green with a matching wool overshirt.
Finally, Nacho wears his trusty Omega Seamaster 300M ref. 2254.50.00. However, he usually wears it on either an OEM bracelet or a NATO strap, but today he chose to wear it on the amazing Arroway Modular Bracelet AMB-001. Milan mesh. He had tried mesh bracelets before, but couldn’t find one that ticked all the boxes. now. He’s still putting it through its paces, so stay tuned for a comprehensive review coming soon.

Today, you have more choice than ever when purchasing a watch up to a certain price point. Do you choose a microbrand watch or one of the many entry-level legacy brands? In terms of price, these watches are quite comparable. And in many cases, spec-wise, it’s not that far off. But does price and spec always trump a well-known and respected brand name? Does the right value proposition trump brand heritage or the romance of a particular brand? I think these are all legitimate questions. So today we will do just that and discuss it through different perspectives.
Microbrands can be a great option if you want to make a big splash with your money. But the appeal of traditional brands is undeniable. Does it depend on personal preference? Or are there other factors to consider? Today we will join the discussion and cover this topic. However, we would also appreciate your feedback on this matter.
