Simply put, not all complications are created equally. Today’s episode of Fratello Talks discusses many of these watch elements that are adjacent to the most important timetelling features of the watch. Nacho, Thomas and Rex begin by defining the terminology before listing their favorite complications and ending up with something they don’t like so much. They also discuss the fact that while some complications such as chronographs and GMT play a more active role, others are not as interactive as permanent calendars and moon faces. Anyway, I recommend reading all the complications beyond what is being discussed today. Their journey from their functional inception to their development and combinations has led to some of the most impressive watches in the world. Speaking of complications, let’s take a look at who’s wearing them this week.
Wrist check
Straight from the block, Rex complicates things with the ocean world timer of the new Omega Seamaster planet of deep black ceramic on his wrist. This is a complicated watch, as it appears to be easy to see. It has both humble dates and less common complications of world time.
Meanwhile, Thomas enjoys a simple life with his time-only VPC type 37HW. As long as the clock goes, this is not as complicated as it gets. But is the next chapter in the VPC book a bit complicated? It only tells whether it communicates time or not.
Worn his Hamilton Khaki Field Auto to the office today (a watch with complications of a respectable date), Nacho decides to complicate things. A quick look at Fratello Safe reveals the perfect watch for today’s podcast, the Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Gmt. This vintage style travel watch has plenty of 70’s charms and not only has date complications, but also offers a GMT hand and an internal rotation 24-hour bezel. Fratello Talks: Considering complications
Today, we all have smartphones in our pockets. However, these near-dangerous handy devices were not always present, and some of the tasks that these gorilla glass rectangles currently deal with handles were left to mechanical watches, from knowing time and date to timing tasks to setting handy alarms. Learning more about the achievements of skilled watchmakers and the mechanical gimmicks they have created is one of the most fascinating aspects of watch enthusiasm. Today we look at a handful of complications, choose our favorites and discuss how useful (or “unhelpful”) some of them are.
