Welcome to another episode of Fratello on Air. This week we will answer listeners’ questions about watches to consider when new collectors enter their hobby. That’s a question that has been asked many times, but frankly, it’s been a while since we’ve worked on it. For listeners, the clock talk begins in 23 minutes.
A few years ago, when we were new collectors, the Seiko SKX007 was the natural response when someone asked about the best first watch. It was reasonably priced and tough, with enough chops to take it somewhat seriously. However, the watch has been gone for a long time, so there is still an opportunity for new answers. After all, there are many answers.

Before we offer ideas to new collectors, we’ll explain about recent television shows. White Lotus, Mobrand, London gangs and agencies are part of the series we’ve seen. Balazs wears his latest acquisition, the Ming 22.01 GMT Kyoto. Mike abandoned the Vintage Seiko 6215-7000 diver. Both works work well in the summer heat!
Watches for new collectors
Over the past decade, my hobby of watches has changed dramatically. The microbrand was still relatively new and the choices were limited. Today, many brands offer great pieces at affordable prices. Names such as Baltotic, Lorier, and Christopher Ward have great watches with respectable movement. Furthermore, some of these companies have been around for long enough to become globally recognised. The traditional brand also offers some great options. Seiko 5 GMT, Swatch groups with herds of brands, and even Timex, have created great watches for new collectors. It is difficult to overlook the Tudor Black Bay 58 when using a watch at the top edge of the fictional 2,500 euro price cap.
Enjoy today’s episode. Feel free to let us know about the first watch you purchased when you started collecting. As always, if you have any ideas for a new show, please contact us.
