When I wrote an article about Fratello EDC (Everyday Carry) three years ago, I didn’t think it would be popular among readers. After all, Fratelli loves to peek into our bags and pockets. So, popular demand has brought us back to another series on our everyday carry essentials.
Many can change in three years, including what we carry around. In this sense, it’s very interesting to revisit this article in a few years. I don’t usually track EDCs, so this gives me the opportunity to see what’s changed. Let’s jump in!
Not part of my EDC anymore
Let’s start with items I don’t carry anymore. First of all, there is my Montblanc Star Walker Ball Point. Unfortunately, about 17 years later, the rubber look began to fade. I am very sad about this as the pen was a gift from a dear family friend. Of course, I still keep it, but I’m not writing with it anymore.
Books A letter from Stoic by Seneca is also on my list. I still apply some of the Stoics teachings to my everyday life, but since then I have evolved with my views on life and are less relevant than when I first got into the book We adopted philosophy more integratedly.
What remains
Most of the other EDC gear I shared are still fully used every day. My Carl Friedricks One Field wallet is a little darker, but there is no single thread snapped and the leather is still in perfect condition. After an additional 1,000 days in my pocket, I can prove its durability.
My iPhone 13 Pro Max still runs smoothly. I remember a time when I wanted to upgrade my phone relatively quickly, but that day has been gone for a long time. I’m now extending the lifespan of my smartphone as much as I can, and it’s still working well.
My Ray-Ban aviator is also spinning, but in the meantime it turned into my driving colour. High quality large glass and thin frame make your eyes pleasing and perfect for long drives. My daily sunglasses are now a pair of Sepia’s Ace & Tate Eleanor.
clock
I wrote a lot about it, so I don’t get into the clock in too much detail. Regular followers of the Fratello Talks Podcast will know that I have a true EDC watch, my VPC type 37HW. Since releasing this watch, I have not worn any other watches except during my hands-on review of Fratero. Naturally, as a watch I developed when I was pregnant, it feels like a part of me. It’s the EDC item that is closest to my heart.
I’ve noticed that I always wear a gray version of a pigeon. I’m happy to report it. However, when I launch a Type 39VM later this year, my wrists may soon be seen again in variations.
My new EDC camera: Fujifilm X100VI
Three years ago, I used the Fujifilm X-S10 for everything from studio work with a watch to snapshots of my family outdoors. The camera was not very good at either end of the photo spectrum. I wanted something better suited to a highly controlled job at Studio, so I swapped the Canon R5 for Fuji.
But it left a camera-shaped hole in my EDC. I don’t like carrying heavy cameras and lenses around, so I went hunting for something compact. I landed on Fujifilm x100vi. Today I carry it everywhere and use it mainly for social media and casual photography. I’m filming Raw exclusively for Canon, but fell over by Fuji movie recipes for a casual photo shoot. Most of my Instagram shots are straight from the camera.
My EDC Bag: Joseph Bonnie Maverick’s Olive Drab
Carry laptops and other EDC items in Joseph Bonnie’s bags. If that name rings the bell, it makes sense. After all, one of the owners of Joseph Bonney also co-owns Celica. This canvas bag is inspired by helmet bags from the 1950s.
I like the casual style of the bag, the compact size, and the ability to hold my laptop with everything I have. Joseph Bonney repeats a durable look from 100% cotton canvas. Mine developed patina but does not show any signs of structural wear. The bright blue inside looks cool and makes things easy to find.
New Pen: Ystudio Classic Revolve Rollerball in Brass
My Mont Blanc collapsed and I went looking for a new EDC pen. I like writing with a rollerball pen, so that was my number one priority. Secondly, I wasn’t trying to buy anything super high-end for daily carry. Rex is painfully experiencing it with his snake pen, so you need to be prepared to lose what you have to your person.
I settled on a Taiwanese brand Istodio pen. This makes a beautiful hexagonal pen from machined brass. I like the patina that it develops and I promise that the construction of full metal will not develop the problems my rubber Mont Blanc did.
My EDC Knife: Fontenille Pataud Corsican L’Anto Amourette
Since the first EDC article in 2022, I have begun carrying pocket knives. I enjoy opening the package and having one for me to cut back on my daily fruit. I’m not a huge fan of the aggressive aesthetics of modern, tactical knifes. As a fan of more classic cutting tools, I landed on a French knife from Fontenille Pataud.
I settled in a Corsican rand with a snakewood or amlet handle. Fontenille Pataud makes these knives by hand. When you deal with it, you immediately feel the love and attention that has entered it. These are heirloom quality knives and are further aided by the lovely hand-covered initials of spring.
I love this knife and don’t recommend it as an EDC knife. In my humble opinion, when folded 12cm, it’s a little too big for a daily carry knife. Give me a chance and choose a slightly smaller model, like the Pradel.
Close thoughts
There you have it – my updated EDC in 2025. A considerable number has changed, but some remain the same. I really like the little setups I carry every day right now. These items feel like a good reflection of my (life) style. I enjoy using them every day.
