It’s only July, but it feels like it’s been summer for several months in the UK. It’s hot and dry. Two descriptors are rarely used here. So I had plenty of time to practice summer watch games. So far, I’ve been away from the pool so the options may seem strange. I will do my best to explain.
If you were a plane listener Fratello, you might have caught an episode where Balaz and I discussed the idea of Summer Watch. During the show we were lost due to the typical idea that this season’s watches must be divers. Many people don’t live near the water or have no access to the pool. Therefore, the concept of what makes a clock appropriate at this time requires an open mind. As I argued, it is the only time that most of my vintage pieces are hidden. The transition between external humidity and internal cold air conditioning is difficult for older tickers. Next, there will be a thunderstorm, and if you’re lucky, you’ll be in the pool or the ocean. I think you’ll get an idea, so head on to the clock.
Easy Summer Watch – G-Shock DW-5000R-1A Origin Revival
My first pick has a bite name, but I need to know that this DW-5000R-1A is basically a spot-on reissue of the first G-Shock in 1985. Therefore, it fits my little wrists and works well as a daily watch.
The G-Shock Watch is not often considered a great summer watch choice, as it can come across completely black models as utilitarian. Many forget that these pieces have a 200m water resistance rating and are built to handle almost every dangerous summer activity you can imagine. The image of the G-Shocks has come a long way, and is now accepted by everyone from the military to fashionistas.
But what I like most about Origin’s revival is the simplicity of its appearance and the fact that you don’t have to resort to an engineering degree to use it. Certainly, it’s battery powered, but the caseback is a hardcore screw-in type instead of a standard grade plate held in place by a few screws. Plus, there’s something cool and special about wearing a watch that started the digital revolution. For 199 euros, the watch is a great deal. They are always sold out, but our certified dealers offer pre-orders.
Norqain Independence Skeleton 40mm
My wildcard pick as my favorite summer watch is the Norqain Independence Skeleton 40mm. Yes, my vintage buddy chooses me to choose a modern, openwork watch, but I enjoy this! Certainly, I don’t own this watch, but after writing it down, Norqain sent me a stainless version and a black DLC model for a proper test drive. Readability is challenging with this type of watch, but I look at it from an angle and find bright hints with both hands.
No, what I like about these watches is that they look fun, exotic and seriously comfortable. Norqain needed a smaller case size that was more competitive. This 40mm piece is like a dream. I’m still a bit conservative, so the stainless steel model is my speed, but both are cool. The chronometer-rated serrata makes you look a bit gross due to the base price of 3,960 euros, but the watch feels even more expensive. With a 100m depth rating, a glorious and comfortable rubber strap and a screw-in crown, this is a great summer watch.
Ming 37.02 Minimalist
ooof chose another non-diver for his third and final summer watches. Technically, the Ming 37.02 minimalist came out late in 2024, but this is a serial production and is available on the brand’s website. So why did this watch make the cut? Now, during the summer, you might want a bit more dressy outfit. Instead of grabbing a vintage dress watch, pieces like 37.02 enjoy cocktails and food that don’t come from deep flyers.
However, when Pinky is on fire, Ming’s hair can remove the proverb hair and engage in waterborne activities. The watch has a 100m water resistance rating and is combined with the brand’s Peerless Black Rubber Strap and Tuck Buckle. Even with rubber, the 38mm x 44.5mm watch looks elegant. Next is the sapphire dial, featuring the company’s own unique, ultra-white luminous material. At CHF 3,250, the Ming 37.02 minimalist is not cheap, but wise buyers spit out a few more flans for the second leather strap in vibrant colour to boost the vibrant season. The customized Sellita SW300.M1 is also a snack for viewing through the sapphire display on the caseback.
Final Thoughts on Summer Watches
Of course, my list isn’t very appealing if diving and bright colors are yours. I own those watches too, but in 2025 these slightly muted options hit more codes. No matter which summer watch or watch you choose, enjoy the heat.
