[F]New Daniel Ross Extra Platte in Rose Gold

I like simple things, but whether it’s a pen, camera, bag, knife, phone, or watch, they are often the most difficult to design. In my opinion, a dress watch should be easy. Complications are often distracting. They are stunning, especially when fully executed by skilled watchmakers, but simple dress watches don’t have a place. At least that’s my requirement for a perfect dress watch. Even the hand of seconds is too much.

Daniel Ross Extra Platt Rose Gold

I tried to monitor Daniel Ross’ extraplat tin in yellow gold earlier this year (click here), which left me smitt. It has a 7.7mm profile with two hands, a beautiful handmade guilloché dial and a 35.5 x 38.6mm double ellipse case, all made from gold. This model was brought to the regular Rose Gold model after Daniel Ross Tourbillon as a succrypted version in yellow gold. As the original Daniel Ross saw from the man himself in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the tourbillon came first and followed the two in modest mode.

Last December I chose the Daniel Ross Tourbillon as one of my favorite watches of 2024, before the brand introduced the Yellow Gold (South Critic) extra plat model and now the rose gold version.

And while it may be humiliated here, I prefer two-way to tourbillons. Like I said, I like things that are easy and simple, and now Daniel Ross introduces his second extraplat model, the Rose Gold Reference DBBD01A1.

Caliber DR002

Daniel Ross’ extra platt suspension in yellow gold features a solid yellow gold case, while the new rose gold version has a sapphire display. This allows lucky owners to admire its beautiful hand-wound caliber DR002. Masterwatch makers Michael Navas and Enrico Barbasini designed the move together with the team. It is only 3.1mm thick and has a fleece pulling balance wheel with four arms, each equipped with variable intestinal weight for regulation. The DR002 movement is neatly decorated with coated degeneves, pulage, angularisation, and highly polished screw heads.

When I spoke to Navas at an event earlier this year, I was amazed at how humble and friendly he was. On his wrist was a prototype of Daniel Ross Tourbillon. He spoke about Louis Vuitton’s experience working in front of Loveliquet du Temus Louis Vuitton for Ardmer’s Piguet, Patek Philippe, Frank Muller and Gerald Genta.

He shared his story about how he came up with the wildest ideas for complications at Frank Muller, how he met and worked with Jean Arneau, and how he inherited watchmaking tools from his father, who worked on watches. Navas told me he and his team were in touch with the legendary Daniel Ross and assures him that he is involved in every step he takes with the brand. It all sounded like they were enjoying what they were doing, and that shows it. The Daniel Ross Extra Platt in rose gold is a beautiful dress watch that carves many boxes.

It’s not for everyone

I also noticed in a few comments about a previous article by Daniel Ross that these watches, in particular their designs, are not for everyone.) And that’s fine. They don’t have to be. This watch is intended for a financially fortunate few (not me) in gratitude to Daniel Ross and masterwatchmakers Navas and Barbasini, as well as Louis Vuitton’s masterwatchmakers and Barbasini.

It’s not that often I try watches that blow me off right away. But Daniel Ross’s Extraplatt did. And that’s the purpose of this passion for watch.

It also looks great on women’s wrists

Regardless of the price or brand name, perhaps there is a flaw to discover, the watch should impress you when you place it on your wrist. A clock should make you smile and hold your breath! That was my experience with Daniel Ross’s Extraplatt.

Daniel Ross Extra Platt Rose Gold – Final Details and Thoughts

I prefer a bit of yellow gold, but this new rose gold edition is equally impressive. The clear case back to the rose gold extra plat will likely add value to most collectors and can praise the work of Navas and Barbasini. La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton created a white gold dial-out and gave it a pinstripe guilloche decoration. There is also a rose gold chapter ring with black Roman numbers.

As you can see, the chapter ring has a filet saute border. The black (steel) hand matches Roman numbers and wordmarks perfectly at 12. Daniel Ross’s extra platte rose gold is found on a taupe calfskin strap with a rose gold pin buckle. Watches cost 49,000 times more than tax.

In the end, it’s a matter of preference, but the other dresses’ watches made me smile like Daniel Ross’ extra platte. What do you think? Please let me know in the comments below.
