Mühle Glashütte is known for its sporty and reliable watches. In 2024, the brand will announce big news with a new line of watches. The Sportivo collection consists of three models made for sports, the office and everywhere else. Here’s a quick overview of each release.
The Mühle Glashütte Sportivo line includes chronograph, GMT and compass date. As we’ll see, all of these watches feature external rotating bezels, screw-down crowns, and 300m water resistance. These pieces share a 42.5 mm stainless steel case design and are powered by Sellita automatic movements. Additionally, the watch features a canvas and rubber strap made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. An Oyster style bracelet with folding clasp is a €250 option on each watch. Let’s take a look at the three models.
Mühle Glashütte Sportivo Compass Date
The Sportivo Compass Date may look like a diver, but it’s actually a watch with a bidirectional compass bezel. Using the bezel is easy. If you hold the watch horizontally and point the hour hand toward the sun, the hour hand and 12 o’clock will form an angle. The center of this angle points south. The textured blue gradient dial is complemented by Super-LumiNova coated hands and indexes. Neon green enters the picture on the rehole, central seconds hand, and non-cardinal markings on the ceramic bezel insert.
The stainless steel Sportivo Compass Date is 11.4 mm thick and features a 2.2 mm thick domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. The decorated Sellita SW200-1 automatic is housed under the display back and offers a 41-hour power reserve. This famous movement features quick date setting and hacking functions. In terms of price, the Compass Date costs 2,300 euros with a strap and 2,550 euros on a steel bracelet.
Sportivo Travel GMT
Next, the Sportivo Travel GMT brings a more formal look to the lineup with a black, gray and blue dial. This attractive piece has an internal 24-hour ring that works with a small GMT hand with an arrow tip. The exterior bezel looks diver’s style, but is bidirectional. This time too, plenty of Super Luminova is used for the indexes, hands, and ceramic bezel. The thickness of the watch is also thin at only 11.4mm.
Like the Compass Date, the Sportivo Travel GMT is powered by a Sellita movement. This watch is powered by the automatic SW330-2 and boasts a power reserve of 56 hours. This is a Kohler-style GMT movement with an independently adjustable 24-hour hand and quick-set date function. At €2,700 on the black and blue strap and €2,950 on the bracelet, this is my favorite design of the trio.
Sportivo active chronograph
Finally, there’s a sporty active chronograph with an attractively textured blue gradient dial and orange highlights. This two-register chronograph displays seconds and has a 30-minute counter. A black-on-white date wheel sits at the bottom of the dial, mimicking the slightly trapezoidal Super-LumiNova hour markers. The rectangular pushers integrate nicely with the crown guard and surround the large screw-down crown.
Once again, the Sportivo active chronograph uses the Sellita caliber. Here Mühle Glashütte gives it the designation MU 9419, but it is based on the SW500. The movement has a 62-hour power reserve and features a decorated rotor and surface finish visible on the rear display. This is a chunky watch at 15.5mm, but part of this is due to the 2.2mm thick sapphire crystal. This is the most expensive product, costing 3,800 euros for the strap and 4,050 euros for the steel bracelet.
final thoughts
With the new Sportivo line, Mühle Glashütte has created a calm and competitive collection. As mentioned above, I’ve always liked this brand’s relatively affordable prices and likeable aesthetics. The color combination works well here, and the size should appeal to those who aren’t on the small watch trend.
