With the new Ultrachron Carbon, Longines continues to enhance its already impressive lineup. Additionally, this watch features the brand’s first carbon fiber case. A beautiful diver watch with an excellent movement.
Longines reintroduced the stainless steel Ultrachron in 2022 and was praised for its 36,000 vph movement and design reminiscent of the 1968 original. A new variant has appeared. The Ultra-Chron Carbon follows a similar shape but looks noticeably different.
longines ultrachron carbon
This watch features the brand’s first carbon fiber case, combined with a titanium crown, bezel, and case back. Therefore, the 43mm x 48mm diver weighs only 80 grams. The domed sapphire crystal is 13.6 mm thick, which is reasonable for a watch that is water resistant to 300 meters. The screw-down crown and screw-down case back enhance this feature. Unlike the steel version with bracelet, this watch is only available on a black technical fabric strap with a titanium buckle.
A good combination of black and gray
The Ultra-Chron Carbon combines a layered carbon fiber case with titanium details, including a 60-minute bezel with black aluminum inserts. The sandblasted anthracite dial features painted and polished metal indexes. Longines has chosen gray PVD-coated hands to match the titanium, and uses blue-emitting Super-LumiNova throughout the dial. Thankfully, the absence of a date window continues, leaving us with a perfectly symmetrical dial.
Chronometer-certified high-beat movement
The Ultrachron Carbon uses the Longines L.836.6 automatic caliber with silicon balance spring. It has a power reserve of 52 hours and a high speed frequency of 36,000vph. Notably, it is also chronometer certified by Time Lab, a company based in Geneva, Switzerland. In the laboratory, each movement undergoes 15 days of testing in various positions and temperatures, proving an accuracy tolerance of 1 minute per month.
conclusion
The Ultra-Chron Carbon is currently available for purchase online and at authorized Longines retailers for $4,900 USD. It’s not cheap, but it competes with watches like the Tudor Black Bay Ceramic and Doxa Sub 300 Carbon. Design-wise, it’s hard to deny the charm of this model, and the movement is a real adder. Some people have concerns about the size, but the relatively short lug-to-lug length allows it to wear well on a variety of wrists. We look forward to giving you a real review, but for now, let us know what you think of the brand’s newest diver.
