Hello everyone, welcome to Fratello Talks. Germany’s most famous watch brand is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year (again). So today, to celebrate 30 years of watchmaking in Glashütte, we’d like to talk about A. Lange & Söhne. Now, some of you may be thinking, “Wait, hasn’t Lange only been around since the ’90s?” The brand was founded in 1845 and closed in 1948. After several decades of dormancy, Walter Lange, great-grandson of Ferdinand Adolf Lange, revived the brand. Since then, it has quickly risen to the top, alongside prestigious watchmaking companies that have been around for centuries. Today we take a look at A. Lange & Söhne, their watches, and what makes them both special. Let’s start by checking your wrists.

We start with RJ wearing the Breguet Tradition 7027BA. The Breguet Tradition 7027BA features a unique visible movement and a small guilloché dial at 12 o’clock. This version of the Tradition features a 37mm yellow gold case, which is absent from current models in Breguet’s lineup. RJ wears it on a custom blue lizard strap that ABP made for him.
Next is Rex. He has selected a loaner today in the form of this Ebell 1911 Glove Worldtimer. With its two-tone case and bracelet and green and gold dial featuring a world map, this model is a bit reminiscent of the ’90s. If you want to know more about this, you can read Jorg’s full hands-on review here.
Finally, Nacho is wearing a 1961 Omega Seamaster Ref. 14762. This watch has been returned from a recent service and has been fitted with a more period-accurate crown (though not exactly the original belonging to this model). In contrast to the way this watch is usually worn (rice grain bracelet), Nacho today chose a black lizard strap for a classy look.
Fratello speaks: A. Lange & Söhne
A. No brand represents the pinnacle of German watchmaking more than Lange & Söhne. Putting aside the brand’s first 103 years of “activity”, it’s still impressive that it’s accomplished so much in just 30 years. Today’s podcast takes a quick look back at the brand’s history and explores some of the most iconic models released over the past 30 years. Finally, I challenge you to choose your all-time favorite.
