Tissot restarted PRX five years ago. Time flies when you’re having fun, right? The integrated bracelet sports watch has become a fan favorite in the meantime. It displays the wrists of many newcomers both for watch hobbies and for veterans. Tissot congratulated us with a number of variations to choose from. Various sizes, materials, colors, movements, and even complications are available. Today I can especially try out the flashy numbers, Tissot PRX PowerMatic 80 40mm Rose Gold and Blue.
Of course, this is not real rose gold, but rather PVD coating. This allows Tissot to make its priced at 895 euros wonderfully accessible. Will it fascinate me or is this a step too far for PRX? Find it!
Tissot PRX PowerMatic 80 40mm
The first thing – spec. It’s quite possible that you’ve read these somewhere in the last five years, but the review course is never painful. As the name suggests, this model is measured between 40mm and is powered by PowerMatic Automatic Calibre. The name “80” refers to the royal reserve of this swatch group movement.
According to Tissot, the case is 39.5mm long. However, this is just the distance between the straight top edges. The length is close to 44mm, including the angled lug. It is just under 11mm thick and helps to give the watch a 10 bar water resistance rating. The sapphire crystal sandwich gives you a clear view of the dial and movement. Speaking of dials, it comes with a distinctive “waffle” pattern that is typical of all automatic PRX models. The watch is located on an integrated bracelet with a quick release spring bar, allowing for a switch to a nice elastic strap.
The Powermatic 80 caliber tick at a slowed 3Hz frequency (21,600 vibrations per hour) helps to achieve its large power reserve. This widely used movement traces its roots to the industry’s favorite ETA 2824, making it a more cost-effective choice, with several adaptations to extend the power reserve.
Roses and Blue Treatment
So, what’s the difference between the models I’m trying out today? Well, that’s not the most subdued version of the lineup. These small numbers are decorated with a flashy rose tone look. The colour works very well. The elegant dark blue dial visually holds rose gold glittering in some form. It offers an introverted and calm heaven in an otherwise rather extroverted clock.
Thankfully, the copper tone of PVD treatment is not as much of a scream as it was. I don’t normally wear gold so my eyes had to adapt to this Tissot Prx Powermatic 80. One thing to note is that gold alloys (even simulated ones) tend to have different colors. This rose gold is very pink and doesn’t look naturally good on all skin tones. My advice is to decide if your complexion works best with this version, or perhaps the yellow gold variant is the most effective.
Rose tone and blue wearing Tissot PRX PowerMatic 80 40mm
My opinion shifted twice when I spent my time with the Tissot Prx Powermatic 80 40mm on Rose Gold PVD and Blue. My first impression was one of the horrors: “Oh, that’s a little!” Soon, my eyes were adjusted, and I realized that I rather like the combination: “What do you know? This works!” But over time, the novelty grew a little, and old familiar emotions rose to my mind. Gold-PVD coated watches have chronic problems.
This is not a fault for the Tissot PRX PowerMatic 80 40mm. I generally don’t like gold-plated watches. They always make me feel like I’m wearing a mask and pretend that I’m not. Or you could say that the watch pretends not. Gold is a very noble and imposing metal and should not be counterfeited. I’m a little bit apart as merely handling a plated watch doesn’t match the weight of its appearance.
Certainly, that’s pretty despicable in my opinion. Many people like the appearance of gold, but don’t have a budget for it or even take enough care to justify their spending. By dropping to the Tissot Prx PowerMatic 80 40mm on the Rose Gold PVD, you probably won’t get it wrong. Especially with a rather hard modern coating, they will probably enjoy it for years. But for me, my favorite PRX remains the forged carbon model.
