Well, impeccably, now… Doxa has the third Clive Cussler Limited Edition in the series. What is Matthew McConaughey’s connection? Well, the new Doxa Sub 750T is the latest Clive Cussler Limited Edition, and in 2005 McConaughey starred in the film Sahara as Dirk Pitt, based on the novel of the same name by Clive Cussler. True to the book, McConaughey wore an orange doxa sub in the film.

The next question is why today and why is there another Clive Cussler Limited Edition? The new 750T celebrates the 20th anniversary of the film, and is limited to 94 in honor of Clive Cussler, who is born on July 15, 1931, and is celebrating today’s 94th birthday.
case
The Doxa Sub 750T Clive Cussler, as its name suggests, is a 750-meter water-resistant diver’s watch, presented in a 45mm steel case. Before you worry about that, remember that the clear saucer shape of the case is a lagtoo lug of just 47mm, with a very compact length. Fun fact: The latest 750T is almost 2mm thinner than 20 years ago, only 11.95mm. This is very thin on a watch with a depth rating of 750 meters.
Speaking purely from experience, it may sound ridiculous, but I have to praise Doxa for their under-screw crown. From my personal experience, the Doxa Crown is very smooth and well made. It’s not all watches with screw-in crowns are that good, as they are preferred by diving watches to add a layer of security.
Dial
As expected, Naar’s one-sided bezel frames the dial. The dial is placed under a flat sapphire crystal and is rendered in Doxa’s iconic orange. Due to the top priority of DOXA’s readability, the time index consists of a thick, rectangular plot of Lume with black hasheds. The only exception is the 3 o’clock position, which hosts date complications. The classic Doxa phone is in the center and consists of narrower time hands, wider minutes hands, and second hands running in the plot of that square room. To be clear, all diving-related indicators (index, hand, bezel pip) are coated with Super Luminova to ensure optimal readability in the dark.
Everything up until now has been Doxa business as usual, but this limited edition has a novel with a somewhat subtle element. Next to the 4 o’clock position is the Sub 750T text with the name Clive Cussler printed below. On the left, at 7:30am, there is the Numa coat of arms of arms donated to the National Underwater and Marine Agency, founded by Clive Cussler in 1979, with a mission to uncover and protect historic shipwrecks. A portion of the proceeds from this limited edition will be donated to NUMA to support this.
strap
As for the strap, there are two bundle options. The first thing we have here is a mixed finish beaded bracelet with a very handy dive extension clasp. Whether you’re a professional diver or just a desk diver, trust me. The other straps (cannot be photographed) are orange NATO straps that complement the dial with a black center stripe. Which straps do you rely on? Personally, I’ll probably wear it the same way as McConaughey on the bracelet, but the good news is that you’ll eventually get both and don’t have to choose just one.
Movement
Turn the watch over and you can see that the compass motif seen in the previous two Clive Cussler Limited Editions is engraved on the caseback. Each cardinal is said to reflect different aspects of his life’s work. North, for the quest for homeostasis and truth, South for the unknown of the South, and exotic east for beginnings and discoveries, West for the fulfillment of the quest and the announcement of mystery. A clicking sound beneath the caseback is the automatic Sellita SW300, a sturdy, reliable caliber with a 56-hour power reserve.
verdict
Some may think that the orange doxa is very innovative. The previous two limited editions were certainly much more clear in their aesthetics, but that feels like the purest tribute to the characters of Clive Cussler and his Dark Pitt so far. The watch, which is 750T, is novel in that it does not offer the 750T in regular production on the DOXA website. It will be interesting to see if the 750T returns to regular production.
