When you think of CIGA designs, what comes to mind right away is the brand’s highly successful Blue Planet. Not only is the watch recognizable right away, it also has won numerous prizes. Still, there is another aspect of CIGA design that is much more modern and futuristic. The New Z Series Hunter Automatic Skeleton fits the general profiles of brands such as Richard Mille, Hublot, and BianChet. However, Hong Kong-based brands offer similar aesthetics at a much more affordable price. Check out the new CIGA Design Z Series Hunter Automatic Skeleton.
When I first opened the press kit, I was immediately intrigued. What’s great about these styles is that there’s a great sense of freedom in designing these watches. The basic shape leads, but there is plenty of freedom to play with shapes, angles and proportions. For the new Z Series Hunter, we chose an octagonal tonno-shaped case for the CIGA design. It’s a classic form, but it’s the way it’s firmly rooted and designed and built in modern times. Adding a skeletonized look, three modern finishes and an in-house caliber, this becomes a rather surprising creation.
CIGA Design Z Series Hunter Automatic Skeleton Specifications
Start things with a notable case design. This is a three-part structure characterized by modern angle lines. I really love the presence of the sculptures on the case. It’s bold and on your face, but when zooming in on different elements it reveals enough detail.
The case is 43mm in diameter, 48mm in length, and 12.1mm in thickness. It weighs only 69.8 grams, which is quite light, especially considering it is stainless steel. Additionally, the case features a DLC coating to improve scratch resistance and is available in classic silver, modern carbon and minimalist black.
The case finish adds to the visual drama with micro-sandblasted surfaces and polished funny edges, creating a dynamic contrast between textures and finishes that I like. Ciga Design was paired with a 22mm H-Link bracelet that matches the case finish and features a butterfly clasp.
Again, the overall micro-sandblasted finish gives the watch a matte look. However, the polished chamfers of individual links also add a visual glow. The combination of the case and bracelet creates the latest canvas for the skeletonized dial and caliber.
Skeletonized dial with internally caliber CD-07
As you can see, the Z Series Hunter does not have a traditional dial. Beneath the sapphire crystal is an openwork dial that provides an excellent view of the latest skeletonized caliber CD-07. This 24 Jewel’s automatic caliber runs at 28,800VPH, offering 40 hours of power reserve and accuracy of -15 to +25 seconds per day. Moreover, its skeletonized appearance perfectly fits the overall aesthetic.
As you can see, the dark carbon and black version features the same dark shade of bridge as the case, which contrasts nicely with the rest of the movement. Additionally, the silver version offers a more monochromatic overall aesthetic. The caliber CD-07 features hollow, excavated and polished chamfered edges. The 120-degree anchored rotor and balance wheel have the same microblast satin finish as the case and bridge. It shows the caliber integration development and overall design of the watch.
Contrasting details ensure the practicality of the automatic skeletons for Z Series Hunter
The light skeletonized hands contrast with openwork dials. They all feature bright green room tips that correspond to bright green room markers at 3, 9, and 12 o’clock. This makes it easy to read the time by closing the hidden clasp and turning your wrist to look at the watch. Also, if you want to change the strap bracelet, it’s easy thanks to the quick release system.
Overall, this is another notable creation from CIGA designs that quickly stand out. The modern sports watch has plenty of amazing details that quickly stand out. Currently, all three watches are available for $499 on the brand’s official website. Considering what you get for the money, it’s a great price. A watch designed with a great eye in a well-thought-out mix of details, in-house caliber and finish. If you’re in the market for modern sports watches like this, it’s hard to beat the CIGA Design Z Series Hunter at this price range. So, praise for CIGA designs for another notable release.
