It’s hard to believe that Glashütte Original Seaq debuted in 2019 as part of the Spezialist Collection. The watch was added to the perpetual catalogue, honoring the 1969 brand Spezimatic Type RP TS 200. Since its first release, new dial colors and materials have been added. The smallest products in the lineup include a 39.5mm model, a new strap option and a display case back. Additionally, the brand will modify the display case to a previously purchased model at a relatively nominal fee. Let’s take a look at this wearable classic diver.
There are several cases of skin flavor on the market, but nothing is as nice as Glashütte’s original Saq. The watch adds a high level of finish and an in-house caliber. But is this a dress watch dress like a tool? It’s not likely to happen! The SEAQ has a depth rating of 200m, ample room and one-way ceramic bezel. Now, Glashütte Original has decided to breathe new life into this watch with fresh straps and a display caseback.
39.5mmGlashütte original Seaq
Glashütte Original has distributed three SEAQ models to its headquarters. 39.5mm stainless steel Seaq is available in three dial colors. Dark green, dark blue and black are equipped with matching ceramic dive bezels. Interestingly, non-black options have bright white details, while black models tend to have a pure retro look with aging Super Luminova. Dimensionally, the piece comes in a 47mm lug-to-lug and a thickness of 12.15mm.
Showing 39-11
Unlike other models in the SEAQ collection, the 39.5mm version always features all metal cases. Usually we’re fine with this choice, and it reminds us of the original 60s version. But it’s a shame if the movement is just as attractive as the company’s auto 39-11, it’s a shame not to show off it. Currently, the stainless steel version is available back with a sapphire equipped display case. If staying true to the original is important, the all-steel caseback will continue to be available with a saving of 300 euros. But there’s more!
Glashütte Original recognizes that buyers of the 39.5mm Seaq over the past six years may look a little envious of the display back. Therefore, this brand offers a service that replaces the old one with a new sapphire version. It costs 300 euros, but the watch undergoes rigorous pressure tests to ensure a water resistance rating of 200m. Additionally, the original serial number will be transferred to the new case, making sure all original documents are consistent. Finally, the owner can maintain the original solid case. It’s a great and thoughtful service from a brand owned by a large conglomerate.
Let Seaq’s movement shine
I’m not usually making a fuss about automatic movement compared to my manual counterparts, but the 39-11 is a pretty spectacular sight. The calibers feature angularisation, traditional Grassut swan neck adjustments, and gold-plated “double G” on skeletonized rotors. Below it is a distinctive quarter plate decorated with thin stripes. Again, the display back often gives a disappointing view, but SAIQ’s movements deserve the spotlight. Plus, expect a power reserve of about 40 hours and a frequency of 28,800 VPH.
New strap collar – perfect for summer!
Initially, Glashütte originals offered a 39.5mm Seaq with rubber straps or stainless steel bracelets. Currently, there are five textile straps in different colors as a costless option for rubber. Black, blue and grey are available for a while, and orange and green are now joining them. Luckily, all of these straps are made from recycled fishing nets, checking the sustainability box. More than that, they are comfortable and work well in wet environments. Not only is the strap strong, it should not dry out and disappear quickly.

SEAQ buyers appreciate the choices. Therefore, textile straps are available with push button butterfly clasp or simple pin buckles. The butterfly clasp is an additional 300 euros and the pin buckle is standard. Regardless of your choice, both are signed and have a mix of brushes and polished surfaces.
Good for the wrist
As a longtime watch collector, I have seen trends come and go. NATO straps were a comprehensive trend 10 years ago. They have their place, but I’ve never suddenly gotten on a lump of material on the side of my wrist or a stack of layers running under the clock. A two-piece textile strap removes these concerns. Plus, SEAQ is a luxurious watch, so why not pair it with a cleaner, fashionable strap?
The new straps look great and are instantly comfortable and flexible on the wrist. It also helps that the watch case is thin and does not overwhelm the strap. There is no need to intrude, and it appears to be well made to avoid fraying. The buckle is also good. The folding version is a more luxurious option, but the pin buckle makes it easy to add water adjustments when your wrist bulges. Choosing a color and buckle can depend on your use case and dial tone. Also, although this is probably obvious, the straps can be ordered individually from a Glashütte original or certified dealer.
Final Thoughts
Perhaps the display case back and new strap additions don’t look that big. Again, the 39.5mm SEAQ has a classic profile and is rarely needed in the update method. Therefore, such small adjustments are welcome and provide an opportunity for existing owners to stay up to date. Prices range from 9,900 euros to 10,400 euros, and depending on the caseback and clasp, the watch offers a unique choice between the typical sea of divers. Now there are a few more options to make them that interesting. If you currently own SEAQ, is the new display case interesting? If you don’t own these updates make the watch more desirable?
