The watch’s swatch press release says it was “inspired by untapped things.” The deep green new Blanpine x Swatch 50 Fathom takes inspiration from the depths of the ocean with a touch of black (bezel) and beige (markers, hands, bezel count, etc.).
Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms Green Abyss
This is the ninth Blancpain x Swatch Scuba 50 Fathom variation from a company founded in Beer in 1983, my favorite version to date, followed by a stormy sea. This new Green Abyss edition might line up me up at Swatch Boutique on June 7th.
Blancpain’s collaboration is probably less demanding than the Moonswatch variation (because Omega is a more recognised name than Blancpain), but the collection of Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms models has fans. Almost every time you enter a swatch boutique, someone asks about them or praises the display, where every model inside appears.
sistem51
Unlike Moonswatch, the Scuba Fifty Fathoms model has mechanical movement. This also explains the price difference, of course. Inside the Blancpain-based design is the Swatch Sistem51 movement. Swatch introduced this mechanical caliber, which debuted during Baselworld in 2013. I found my way to the Blancpain x Swatch Scuba 50 Fathom Collection. As Nacho reported in this article last year, “The movement of the Swatch Sistem51 consists of five modules. These include mechanical stem modules, escapement modules, auto-winding modules, vibration weights, wheel trains, dates, and plates that host hand pinions. Borrow from the previous Swatch Group movement design.”
The Sistem51 movement offers a 90-hour power reserve and features a co-magnetic nivoklon hair spring.
The imposing sea goddess
This movement features detailed digital prints from Felimare Pictor. This is a colorful nudibran, often referred to as the imposing sea goddess. Often found on the seabed, it serves as a reminder of the many wonders of the ocean and the diverse marine life within it. Like the previous 8 Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms Watches, everything is visible through a transparent caseback.
50 Fathoms is equivalent to 91 meters
What sets this Green Abyss version apart from other Scuba FF watches is the color combination. Dark green dials, black bezels with sandy numbers and markers, and NATO-style straps that integrate all these colors create what I almost call a tactical combination. The numbers, markers and beige on the hands are all grade A superluminova for easy readability in low light conditions. Water resistant to 50 Fathom, equivalent to 91 meters or 300 feet. It’s probably 100 meters anyway, but the nod to Blanpine’s name is neat!
Availability and pricing
The price of the Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms Green Abyss is 400 euros.
This lightweight 42.3mm watch will be available on select Swatch Boutiques on Worldwide starting June 7th. As you know from past releases, initial delivery is always somewhat limited. But some of us still deserve to be lined up. Would you like to do it?
