Time + tide
Long ago, people wore watches because they needed them. The timekeeping device was necessary to stay organized and on time. There were many sizes, colors and styles as needed. You might assume that many people liked to wear watches in the same parts as elegance and robustness, so you might want to be romanticised these days (from a watch perspective). (Again, they only needed one.) And whether it’s true or not, this type of watch will have a perfect balance of reliability, legality and versatility so this type of watch will never come back to style or fall out of fashion. So is the theme today: Beaucroft Element is currently available at Time+Tide Shops in both London and Melbourne.
case
For Beaucroft elements, it is itself a balanced exercise. As for dimensions, it fits most wrists thanks to the 39.5mm diameter, 46.5mm lug-to-lug, total thickness of 11.7mm and 20mm lug width of 20mm. According to many watch enthusiasts, these dimensions are universal and are suitable for watches of this genre. This element is accompanied by a 200-meter water resistance (thanks to the screw-in crown and caseback), domed sapphire crystal, and a hardness coating of 1,200-1,300 hV, which means it can actually handle itself in many types of situations. In other words, the Beaucroft elements continue to perform well and look great, whether you’re in the office, hiking, or diving through a large barrier reef.
The elemental case is also a balanced exercise from a design perspective. The 316L stainless steel case shows off a delicate vertical brush and mirror polished surface with seamless transitions. Notable Chamfer runs the entire case from one lug to another, as well as the polished lower half of the fixed bezel. The case side defines the visual character of the element with a midcase projecting from the lower half, narrowing towards the center. The latter appears to be part of the caseback. It is angled and has a fine finish of bead blasting, making this section of the case stand out from the rest. Finally, the small but easy to manipulate crown perfectly complements the appearance and functionality of the Beaucroft elements.
Dial
Like the balanced case design and proportions, the Beaucroft element comes with a dial that is perfectly symmetrical and aesthetically appropriate for any type of environment. The long, rounded, faceted time and minute hands align perfectly with the long, rounded, faceted application time markers. The hands and marker finish are the same – brushed top section and polished chamfer – it’s fun to see. The baton style time markers are classic, but the roundness here gives it a sporty look. Together, these all create a very cohesive, comfortable, symmetrical look.
The hand of the second stands out from the rest as it is completely painted in a color that matches the color of the dial. However, it remains an integral part of the dial design and elemental functionality, as it rings generously with Super Luminova BGW9, just like time and fine hands and application time markers.
Additionally, the dials on the Beaucroft element feature three-level structures that add visual interest to the entire package. The center includes the brand’s logo and text under the pinion in the sunray finish. Then higher sections where the time marker is partially embedded. Finally, a small hash mark is printed with a color that matches the color of the dial, and a small hash mark is printed on the track. Combined with multifaceted hands and markers, there are many interesting things going on here.
bracelet
To complement the technical and visual versatility of the Beaucroft Element, this model is mounted on a 3-link stainless steel bracelet with a quick release spring bar, built-in micro-adjusting mechanism and screw-in links. The links are rounded and the outer ones are finished with polished chamfers. Overall, it is a great bracelet that is comfortable to wear and perfectly matches the element’s case and dial design.
Movement
This movement is also part of the Beaucroft Element spec sheet, which highlights its versatility and robustness. The brand chose the premium Miyota 9039 caliber, running at 28,800 bph/4Hz and comes with a 42-hour power reserve. Additionally, Beaucroft adjusts its movements internally to operate at +/10 seconds per day.
