There is always a lyrical waxing impulse when it comes to watches and related accessories. After all, when you spend a lot of money on small things, we need to justify a purchase with a grand statement about its artistic merit, its unique concept, or its historical context. I feel it. Well, I really don’t believe in everything that can apply to a watch strap. What I believe is that a three-digit watch strap should offer comfort beyond standard, premium materials and an aesthetic that looks expensive. The new Artem Loop-Less Hydroflex collection is an easy hit to all three criteria.
Rubber is a very prominent material in our daily lives and is not often associated with high cost, so it has always been difficult to blend with the concept of luxury watchmaking. They lack the weight of the bracelet and the refinement of the leather, but they are really most comfortable in hot weather. Artem’s Hydroflex is made from FKM rubber. FKM rubbers are synthetic rubbers that are far more resistant to heat and chemical interactions than both vulcanization and standard silicon. But even so, the FKM rubber itself can be found within the budget brand. Artem’s particular approach to Hydroflex is why it makes it a gorgeous item, with careful design and extraordinary attention to detail.
The top surface of the loopless hydrofex strap is given a complex texture that emulates the appearance of a sailing ship, but of course it is much more flexible than most rubber canvas straps. That way, it doesn’t just look like a plain rubber strap, but there’s no compromise on performance. There is also a groove on the back of the strap that has a concave surface towards the top. This is supposed to promote airflow to reduce friction and sweat. The strap also comes with a quick release spring bar given in most aftermarket straps these days.
What makes this collection mostly new is the fact that they are Artem’s loopless designs. This means there are no overly held loops in the strap. reason? Certain types of folding fasteners are used. This will pass the long side of the strap under the short side, eliminating the need for slight loops or ends of the strap that can flutter. These clasps can be purchased individually for $87 USD in steel or black PVD finishes and are required for use with loopless hydroflex straps.
