Andrew McCutchen
Editor’s note: If you want every member of your writing team to share their most-worn watches in 2024, you can’t have your boss share their recommendations. Of all the members of the Time+Tide team, Andrew probably tries on more watches than any of us. And since he’s constantly moving between Australia, Switzerland, the UK and further afield, it’s hard for even us to keep track of him. What’s on his wrist? Thankfully, as we all slowed down a bit during the Australian summer, Andrew was able to take some time off and share his accomplishments with us.
Cartier Tank Louis Cartier “Animated Dial”
This watch was created by two members of the Time+Tide team and their sinister influence. Firstly, Pietro, who owns the platinum version of this watch with a blue animated dial, looks this frankly small watch on a very masculine and muscular wrist… Somehow, Rugby The contrast between the athlete’s physique and the petite rectangular watch is perfect and elegant, making it very convincing. So I started looking for a tank. And Russell, in his wisdom, identified a Tank Louis Cartier with a rose gold gray dial from the same collection as Pietro. But for me, this model expresses its look even better with the warm tones of rose gold contrasting with the anthracite gray. Rose gold and gray are a deadly combination for any occasion and this is proof of that.
The most endearing and endlessly eye-catching feature of this watch is the way the mosaic dial flashes and fades depending on the angle of the light. From one angle you can see a certain configuration of the pattern, but if you change the angle slightly you can see a different configuration of the pattern. This is always fun. As for the size, it’s no secret that I’ve had a hard time coming to terms with watches of this size, but despite its diminutive proportions, this is probably the most thrilling to wear in my collection. It’s a clock. And each time I do, I find myself looking at it for an unreasonably long time.
For me, this is the most difficult watch to dress in the collection. But I think I’m just overthinking it now. Because like I talked about in my video with Justin Hast, you don’t have to change what you wear. Whatever you wear will be meaningful if you wear it with confidence and belief. That’s why I love it. I wear it on a Molequin strap (taupe suede strap) and it’s the perfect complement.
TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Skipper Rose Gold
My second most worn watch of 2024 is the TAG Heuer Skipper in rose gold. My love affair with this watch began in April at Watches and Wonders in Geneva. When this came out for the fair “Kiss, Marry, Kill” I couldn’t get over the synergy between the rose gold and that truly gorgeous royal blue dial. Combine this with the more saturated sherbet colors found on the regatta counter and you will have the richest and most perfect mix. Given that the release of the Sundowner was just around the corner and I knew at the time that it was going to be a big year for TAG Heuer, I felt warm and fuzzy about spending more than I expected on a gold watch. I did.
Not only that, it’s a gold watch with a regatta timer! That was unexpected. But this is the beauty of the type of collector who almost always buys purely with his heart, and almost never with his head. This is the proof. It’s a wonderful watch. I’m looking forward to trying out different straps. It’s currently mounted on an OEM padded fabric strap, but I can see that this could also work with NATO, and could work with integrated rubber too… for this watch on Tag Heuer You might even be able to start a petition to have a solid gold bracelet made for you. Take it a step further. That would be the Super Bowler.
norquein wild one turquoise
Another commonly worn watch in 2024 was the Toledano & Chan B/1. But we touched on that in Teddy Baldassare’s video and in our video as well. So we’ll cheat and add a fourth clock to the mix. This watch is no surprise. Mark Wahlberg’s favorite, the turquoise Norquain Wild One. There is an interesting story behind this. I was wearing it at the Australian Open in January, and Australian doubles player Matt Ebden and I were talking across the grandstand. This is him on the court after a big win. After the game, we were chatting and I handed him my watch from the stands. So he took it, put it on, and didn’t take it off until he won the men’s doubles title at the Australian Open. 1 in the world.
At the end of the tournament, I quietly asked him if he could give me his watch back sometime, and he replied, Stay with me” – that was it! No Harm, No Foul: In the middle of this year, I was invited to Stan Wawrinka’s tennis clinic in Megève with Norkein, and at that event I was given a replacement turquoise Wild One, and I was given a replacement for the turquoise Wild One. I received a huge amount of gratitude for what I received. Great tennis ambassador. Nice story, but in reality, this is the watch I wear to the gym. I’ve been wearing it for weeks on end without even realizing I was wearing it, and it definitely deserves to be among the most worn watches of 2024.
