Rats are one of the micro brands that I always follow closely. I like its overall retro style, but that’s only half the story. This is because many brands release new watches based on historical designs. What sets the mouse apart is its use of colour. Brands often use less obvious color combinations. I liked the design approach because its design approach leads to amazing results and I guaranteed that many rat releases stand out in the busy micro-brand world. But it doesn’t have to be that different all the time. The proof is the latest version of the rat corbeau, with a black DLC bezel. I had the opportunity to learn more.
The traditional use of colours in the world of watches has been making a stand out to me these days. Nomos has launched multiple series with surprisingly different dials. Palmigiani Fleurier chose beautiful soft tones for his toric model. Rats are another brand that uses colours very often. It’s not as easy as choosing a less common colour. With the exception of the collections of Swedish brands, we can see that a considerable number of releases use more standard ones. Still, mice show that they are not afraid to use softer, sloppy pasttones, and this approach has led to an interesting release over time.
Two new Nezumi Corbeau chronographs
The latest duo in release is a new take from Corbeau Chronograph, the brand’s MIL specs theme. It was the second watch designed and existed by Nezumi founder David Campo since 2016. The microphone is a perfect indication of how well the brand is colouring.
For the new Corbeau model, Campo introduces a reverse pander dial version (ref. CQ4.202) and funky ones with some black DLC processing components and a vintage-inspired dial in stylish colours on the 30-minute counter (REF.CQ4.702). These two new Corbeau models are worth checking out if you like the combination of vintage spirit and colorful and stylish execution. To find out more about this affordable chronograph, I made the latter version for review.
Nezumo Corbo Specifications
Let’s expand the specifications first. The two Corbeau models feature 40mm stainless steel cases with 12.75mm thickness and 47mm lug-to-lug. The blackout version we had for reviews features a brushed stainless steel midcase with a black DLC bezel.
Additionally, the signed push-pull crown, pusher and caseback share the same black DLC coating. The 120-click unidirectional bezel features a black insert with a 12-hour scale to track additional time zones and count the elapsed time. Markings and numbers are printed in white for maximum contrast.
The matte black dial is an outer 60-second scale Super Luminova X1 Arabic numeral. Of the three subdials, the 3 and 6 o’clock subdials follow the dial, while the 9 o’clock one adds a lovely vibrant pop of bright blue and dark yellow colors.
The yellow matches well with the chronograph hand at the tip of two classy arrows. At the center, accompanying the hand of the elapsed seconds is the time and moment hand in a black, bright pencil style, which fits very well with the style of the watch. Looking at the watch reminds me of the legendary Heuer Bund Chronographs or Vintage Sinn 155 models. It’s the look I love for its practical approach, but add a touch of color like nezumi.
The classic version is just as handsome
For the reverse panda dial version, Campo stuck to the classic aesthetic. The cases, bezels and casebacks in this model are all regular stainless steel. The bezel features a version with a black DLC and the same black insert with white numbers.
The matte black dial features an off-white subdial that matches the outer minute track. To make things look more retro, it features minutes and hours numbers, and everything beige Super Luminova. Again, the dark yellow central chronograph hands offer a rich touch of colour and a visual link to the small hands at the 60-minute chronograph counter at 9 o’clock. I also like the aesthetics of this classic version, making it perfect for anyone looking for affordable options in the style of the Heuer Bund chronograph.
Equipped with Seiko VK63 Meca-Quartz movement
For both Corbeau models, Nezumi uses the Seiko VK63 Meca-Quartz movement. This battery-powered caliber has a smooth cleaning central chronograph hand, making it a fan favorite. Accurate within ±20 seconds per month and battery life is 3 years. The VK63 has a reliable caliber that is perfect to keep these chronographs affordable, and is friendly in dimensions for a comfortable wearing experience.
Wearing a mouse corbo CQ4.702
For several days I had the opportunity to wear a new version of Corbeau with black DLC elements. The first thing that stood out to me was how comfortable the watch felt on my wrist. Most of it comes from classic looks. As I’ve mentioned, I love the classic Heuer Bund and Sinn 155 chronographs this model takes, so putting the watch with a similar look on my wrist feels good. But another thing that quickly stands out is the fantastic combination of colors that will liven up the 60-minute chronograph counter at 9:00. It gives the watch a modern touch without making it feel modern.
I had a watch with some nice vintage stitching details and a black DLC buckle with Juno canvas straps. I love that Campo has black buckles and is suitable for the theme.
This watch is also available in a retro style hunt leather strap. This is another great option. Finally, this watch is also available in a stainless steel choline 2.2 bracelet. A fully brushed jubilee style bracelet with folding closure and a micro-fine adjustment system.
A well designed watch
Not only does it look impressive, I feel that the watch is really well made. The Corbeau is solid, manipulating the results of the chronograph, making a series of solid, encouraging clicks. Thankfully, manipulating the crown when setting the time equals security. It also features a 120-click bezel that rotates with clear clicks, providing practicality to track time in different time zones. As a fan of GMT functions, I love this little twist on the classic chronograph. For watches that cost less than 500 euros, I feel that the Corbeau model is very well thought out. The same applies to the 40mm size. Thanks to the Meca-Quartz movement, Nezumi was able to retain a sub-13mm profile, making it a joy to wear the Corbeau.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I was impressed with the new rat Kobo CQ4.702, EThis model and non-DLC stainless steel version are especially considered that you can be yours with 373 euros + VAT on canvas or leather straps. With the bracelet, the price is up to 457 euros or more VAT, but even so, these new Nezumi Corbeau models make attractive offerings appealing for those looking for affordable chronographs with distinctive appearances that are firmly rooted in the past. The colorful twists provided by mice allow you to quickly transport Corbo to the modern era and become a distinctive everyday wearer.
