Last month, I was able to attend a variety of events during London Watch Week. Most of the sessions took place at Mayfair. This includes a day at a historic home featuring a new clock. Andersen Genève occupied a small booth along with the brand’s CEO, Pierre-Alexandre Aeschlimann. Here we found ourselves standing out from the festival of the day. Communication 45 is a beautifully crafted anniversary.
In 1990, Andersen Genève launched Communication 24 after the development of watchmaker Svend Andersen. Interestingly, after Louis Cottier’s death in 1966, there was a shortage of World Timers in the market. Brands like Patek Philippe have stopped producing them, but buyers wanted the functionality. This led Andersen to create communications. Now, New Communication 45 celebrates 35 years since the brand and original release. As you can see, the clock is tilted towards detail.
Andersen Gèneve Communication 45
Andersen Genève had a small showcase in London displaying original communications 24 watches. This small, 18K gold piece featured a Hugman case with a cornered lug. The looks and bright blue crocodile strap felt like a time warp back to the 80s, but the watch was fantastic! Thankfully, the new Communication 45 captures the same spirit, albeit in a more modern size.
The new piece has a diameter of 38mm and there were no lug-to-lug measurements, but it only fits something like a classic dress watch. The handmade 3N yellow gold case is courtesy of Marco Porzzi, master craftsman of Ratchakdo Fonz. CNC machining is not included, making the required corner lug even more special. This case is equipped with a brown crocodile strap, which includes an 18k yellow gold pin buckle.
What a dial!
At first glance, the Communication 45 dial looks like a typical World Timer. However, the materials used to decorate the central part are special. Andersen Gèneve uses a material known as 21k Bluegold. To create this material, iron is alloyed with gold. The materials can then undergo a specially timing and temperature controlled heating process, all done within the kiln to achieve a variety of colors. As the name suggests, the ingredients often turn blue. In this model, the brand worked on creating cognac tones. The result is gorgeous!
From a finishing point of view, the ocean displays wave patterns, tapisaris and guilloche. A collective section of the land is then created by careful removal of the material. Finally, there is the application of pure gold liquid lacquer to create a subtle distinction between the land and the sea.
Communication 45 uses vintage automatic movements and internal complications
The front of the Communication 45 is lovely, but the caseback is also worth seeing. Please take a look! The sculpture, rug designs and features all look like a different era from handmade. Andersen Gèneve chose the vintage A. Shild automatic movement as its base. Each movement is completely disassembled and refined with a matte surface and polished screws before the in-house WorldTimer module is added. The highlight is of course the blue gold rotor with the same tapisari girochi details.
Functionally, the 3 o’clock flash fit crown sets the time and turns movement into wind. The other side is for setting up a city ring. The 24-hour ring rotates during normal wear.
Limited and available in 3 versions
Andersen Gèneve produces 15 watches exhibiting Europe, 15 depicting Asia, and 15 depicting a total of 45 watches. In response, each communication 45 has a unique number of 15 out of 15 cases back. The price will be CHF 49,800 and delivery will begin in the first quarter of 2026. The Andersen Genève Communication 45 certainly isn’t for everyone, but it’s a proper release that characterizes both the brand’s 45th anniversary and its 35th birthday.
