Benoît Mintiens and Ahmed Seddiqi of Ressence are back in another limited edition by the UAE luxury watch and jewellery retailer. This time they used a rather new Ressence Type 9 as a canvas, adding a unique touch. The dome-shaped titanium dial is completely covered with sand. However, it’s not just sand. It is sand from each of the seven Emirates. They only create 20 Ressence Type 9 S75s available only from Ahmed Seddiqi.
This is the fourth collaboration between Ressence and Ahmed Seddiqi. The first three clocks shared the same mosaic dial pattern in different runs. Type 1 square DXB was released in 2019. As the name suggests, there is a cushion case and the dial is partially skeletonized. The Type 1 Slim DX2 was then released in 2021, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the United Arab Emirates. The dial was not skeletonized, but was engraved, which reflected the light in various directions. Two years later, they featured a dial that covered the type 1° DX3 in the room and a thin layer of rose gold on top. Let’s take a look at the latest members of your family.
Ressence Type 9 S75
The new Ressence Type 9 was a highly anticipated release at the end of last year. The 39mm x 11mm titanium case is the most compact watch of a Belgian brand to date, perfect for those who love Benoît’s design but have small wrists. Like the minimalist Type 8, its dial simply points to hours and minutes. The brushed bezel also carries time markers. The first two dial options were monochrome grey and more colorful aqua blue. The new Ressence Type 9 S75 has a golden sandy colour somewhere in between.
Benoît collected the sand along with Mohammed Abdulmagied Seddiqi, Chief Commercial Officer of Ahmed Seddiqi. They set out into the desert, gathering sand from each of the seven Emirates, covering the Type 9 S75 dial. The sand gives each dial a distinct texture and color, returning it to an ancient hourglass. Thanks to its dome-shaped shape, it looks in part like a dune where sand begins.
As you can see, the dial has three blank patches. This is because the back of the dial acts as a bridge for the ROCS (RESSENCE ORBITAL CONVEX SYSTEM) 9 module. The sandless zone is very thin as it holds the ruby of the inner shaft. There is no space left to remove the material and fill the sand there. The patch is a great reminder of cutting edge technology within the Type 9.

There is no traditional crown
The patented ROCS module features fine axles with mechanical automatic movements based on the ETA caliber 2892-2. It operates at a frequency of 28,800VPH, features 31 gems and has a 36-hour power reserve. Like other Ressence Watches, the Type 9 S75 does not have the traditional crown. That protrusion on the right side of the case interrupts the pebbly feel of the watch. That’s why you wrap and set it up according to the instructions on the rotating case that acts as a crown.
Limited to 20
I think it’s great that Ressence has already come out in a limited, very special edition of a relatively new family. The sand dial is an impressive reference to the regional origins of Ahmed Sediki. However, apart from that, the minimalist Type 9 dial with just hours and minutes looks great. The light hits the grain of sand differently, at a glance at your wrist. It gives the watch a unique look many times.
The new Ressence Type 9 S75 is mounted on a matching camel leather strap, costing CHF 19,900, excluding VAT. Production is limited to 20 pieces, and watches are only available through Ahmed Sediki.
