Citizens have knocked it out of the park for the past two years. There was a constant stream of interesting releases. The best thing about them is that the prices are affordable and that what you get for the money is almost invincible. Certainly not all models fit your tastes, but citizens thrive as brands. The latest addition to the lineup is a new series of Zenshin 60 Super Titanium Sports Watches. They are currently taking part in a series of vintage-inspired sports watches that impressed us a lot last year. In addition to adding names to this collection, these four models may still be the best. Let me explain what makes them so impressive.
Last year I reviewed the three Citizens Super Titanium series that impressed me. The first two series are equipped with eco-drive calibers. They consisted of four chronographs (ref. CA4610-85X) and a four-day model (Ref. AW0130-85XX). The second series was a quartet of the automatic small-second model (ref. NJ0180-80X) that proved the best proof. For just over 400 euros, these four watches can provide what a comfortable and lightweight everyday wearer needs. The vintage-inspired design provides the right style for the watch, the super titanium construction makes wear extremely comfortable, and the internal movement is a reliable powertrain. Will that be better?
The story of the citizen Zenshin 60 automatic collection
The citizens were just starting out. The series currently has the name Zenshin, meaning “progress,” and the New Zenshin 60 automatic watch takes good things from the automatic small-second model and improves some key features. Let’s start with some basic details.
The four watches feature the same octagonal cases as the previous model, but with a different bezel. The new 12-sided bezel replaces the round bezels of the NJ0180 series.
The angular bezel adds more characters, and the overall aesthetic reminds me a bit of the sharp lines of the Zenith Die series. It fits very well with these watches and gives them a more modern overall feel.
The laggless case is a water-resistant rating of 40.5mm diameter, 11.25mm thickness, 43mm length, and 100m. It features a brushed finish, polished bevels and an all-polished bezel. Overall, it’s a very attractive look to well emphasize the shape of the corners.
This case comes with a super titanium bracelet with a lightly polished matte finish. Additionally, the bottom of the center link features a sophisticated finish that adds a visual glow to the bracelet. Measure the tapered to a width of 23mm in the case and a width of 20mm within two links. Overall, the finishing mix is well thought out and adds the right visual glow to the watch.
The folding clasp features two neatly integrated push buttons for easy opening. This clasp certainly isn’t the most sophisticated in the business, but it’s a step up from what was found in last year’s automatic small-second model.
A new dial that looks good
But that’s not where it ends. The Zenshin 60 Automatic dial is also visible. All four clocks feature a gradient dial and have a vertical bark-like pattern that extends vertically. The slope is subtle and only starts to darken significantly between application time markers, ending with dark colors around the dial.

Citizens have four colors: dark blue, copper, green and grey blue. The “copper” version looks like a sand or beige color to me, but the “gray blue” dial has a nice, icy look.

Additionally, the 4:30 subdial features concentric de-induction and features a shiny finish that contrasts well with the dial’s texture. Applied markers and central hours and minutes hands are processed in the room, allowing you to read the time in the dark. Finally, the dial avoids the date window, bringing a clean overall aesthetic overall.
Caliber upgrade for Zenshin 60 Automatic Collection
Shaking the watch, we see that citizens have decided to upgrade their movements compared to last year’s automatic second-second model equipped with the 8213. Its brass-colored movement didn’t look very appealing, and that made the citizens expand the game. In the automatic model of the New Zenshin 60, citizens use the in-house caliber 8322. This automatic caliber runs at 21,600VPH, has 21 gems and offers a 60-hour power reserve.
In terms of accuracy, movement works at a minimum of -20/+40 seconds per day. However, these specifications do not necessarily differ from the caliber 8213. The difference is all about the appearance and finish. As you can see, this time, citizens chose to visually align the movement with the colour of the case and the bracelet. Additionally, the finishing of various parts is more elaborate to enhance the visual impact of movement. Again, these watches make it look like a step up from previously released models in the series.
Wearing the Citizen Zenshin 60 Automatic Model
On the wrist, these watches really show how good they are. After sizing the bracelet, which is a fairly simple task with push pins, it wraps nicely around the wrist thanks to many small links. One thing I was hoping for is a more dramatic 23-18mm taper. It will make the design a little more elegant.
However, when you get on your wrist, the lightweight titanium proves to be extremely easy to wear. I generally prefer a little weight, but titanium is perfect for these everyday wearers. Thanks to Duratect treatment of the case and bracelet (civil’s proprietary surface hardening technology), the watch is more scratch resistant than regular titanium, allowing it to withstand wear from daily use perfectly.
Final Thoughts on the New Citizen Zenshin 60 Automatic Model
We found the 40.5mm case to be the perfect size for your wrist. There is no major impact that Integrated-Bracelet Watch often has. In other words, these Zenshin 60 models work with wrists of different sizes.
I loved the clear overall dial aesthetic, combined with a vertically brushed pattern that provides depth and style. Adding a much more pronounced bezel shape compared to the round bezel bezels of previous models gives you a proper appealing watch.
At 499 euros, these Zenshin 60 automatic models are difficult to beat, if not impossible. We feel that the incredible value for the money the citizens offer with these watches will soon become some of the best watches that can be purchased for under 500 euros.
I was already impressed with last year’s release, so it’s a huge achievement. However, citizens have shown that there is room for improvement, and the impact of those improvements has been brought to another winner from Japanese brands.
